I've struggled to muster any interest with this annual game for a while , even the day to day premiership just seems uninteresting these days

Not too much interest it seems as Liverpool take on Arsenal tomorrow
the first memory of this game as a kid was the 1974 game between Liverpool v Leeds when keegan and bremner got sent off . some tasty challenges back then

The Cup Finals these days are usually between the same old teams, who've already played each other a couple of times during the season. It's dull. Liverpool v Arsenal.....er, excuse me if I nod off, or switch off.
In my opinion, they should change the rules so that all clubs playing in European competitions are not allowed to enter the FA or League Cups that season. That rules out the top five - they don't want to play in the Cup anyway, so now they have an excuse. I know people will say - but the TV companies want Liverpool, Man Utd, etc, but do they?

Guess you're right, Dave, but it doesn't feel like it!
You're right, but it's weird - it's all about perception I guess.
I grew up watching FA Cup finals in the Seventies. Three teams from outside the top flight won the competition during that decade. None have won it since. However, the fact is that before Sunderland won it 1972/73, the previous time a team from outside the top flight had won the competition was 1930/31!
The 70s were a unique time re. FA Cup winners, three non top flight winners, unheard of really. Just had a look through the list of winners and it sort of ridicules the theory that’s often bandied about, ‘Ah, the top clubs don’t take it seriously any more’, somebody needs to inform these top clubs I reckon because they absolutely dominate, even more so recently bar the odd Portsmouth and Wigan scenario. There are a few unfamiliar runners up, Hull, Stoke, Palace & Watford (wont include Villa with these as they have a historical Cup pedigree) but the names on the Cup are as familiar as ever. What a day Cup Final Day was in the past, it was akin to Christmas or your birthday, the build up for weeks and then Cup Final morning, wow! Never thought I’d see The City play in an FA Cup Final, thinking back was that the season that the big boys thought ‘What the f*ck’s going on ?’ Cardiff, Portsmouth, West Brom & Barnsley in the semi finals!!!!! We’ll make sure that never happens again’, similar to when Leicester caught them off guard.
Neco Williams started for Liverpool.
Grujic on the bench
Goal Aubameyang, Williams allowed him too much space. Fabulous goal
There were also four EFL cup ties today - Preston battered Mansfield 4-0, Blackburn squeezed past Doncaster 3-2, Stoke beat Blackpool on penalties and Pompey also beat Stevenage on penalties.
Not sure why those games were played this weekend. Maybe the clubs were desperate to start their seasons in August.
Arsenal win on pens after Brewster misses for Liverpool.
Glad Liverpool lost.
Also that Brewster the Jack missed.
Just hope he's not sent back down west as punishment :-(
Grown men enjoying a young lad missing a pen because he played half a season for a team down the road comes across as a bit sad
Good cup final highlights just starting on ITV4+1 1987 Coventry v Spurs.
Was the pen Brewster’s first touch?
