I've been waiting to see In the Heat of the Night for ages. Superb performances from Poitier and Steiger with an excellent supporting cast including Warren Oates and Lee Grant both always worth watching.

Very claustrophobic film , great acting , great lighting

Kubrick also directed paths of glory , one of my favourite war films

"In the heat of the night" is one of my all-time favourite films. The tension is palpable - you can almost feel the steamy heat of the deep south! I watched the VHS tape many times over the years and practically wore it out. Now have a DVD version. Rod Steiger plays the racist cop brilliantly.

Yes Steiger was so convincing tremendous performance, you just hated him , and then shows a glimpse of humanity in his befriending moment power stuff , acting and genius direction was at the forefront in those days ,didn't need special effects , another powerful film was Cape Fear with Robert Mitchum.
