Can you give me an example of a left-leaning conservative?

No. They're not like that. They more like the old Liberal Party. Or the SDP.

    The Democrats?

Liberal conservatives like clark , major and Sarah Wollaston remind me of the Democrats

Not social Democrats like the SDP who are further left

Yet it is those on the fringes that dominate the political discourse, thanks in large part to popular biased cable news programming and social media.

    There you have it.

Predictably so many ignorant and hypocritical comments on here from some that apparently espouse tolerance.

“Rednecks”, “Majority of Americans are Permanently off their heads”, “Characters from the hills have eyes”.

I’d wager that the same posters would describe Brexit voters in a similar fashion.

People who do this are the opposite side of the same coin to the idiots in DC yesterday.

The partisanship has to stop...unless you would rather be seen as right than create a better world.

They just seem like that because the system of government we have is so restrictive. So someone like Bill Clinton or Barack Obama can have a ton of liberal ideas, but they have to be tempered to get through the House and the Senate. Do you get stuff like Don't Ask Don't Tell and the Affordable Care Act.

Many Democrats that live in so-called "swing states" have to be careful what they agree to because there's a Republican at home who will jump all over them and twist everything out of all proportion if they agree to anything that can be called "socialism". Joe Biden holds all the aces right now, but he's a moderate. We'll see what people like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocascio Cortez can get done. We need taxpayer-funded healthcare here. Badly. More people go bankrupt do to unpaid medical bills than anything else. We'll see.

those people in Washington were a bunch of redneck lunatics intent on violence, straight out of a cartoon

I disagreed with the decision to leave brexit , I think those who voted for it were misguided and an element were Deffo racist

But I didn't see an armed militia of bearded tubbies attacking the houses of Parliament following our decision to leave Europe?

    Did you ?

You are not equating the shocking scenes of murder and destruction in Washington by far right idiots with the pro Europe movement here are you ?

    Interesting , cheers

Are you going to get tax payer funded healthcare though ?

Isn't that totally against the American way , if there is such a thing ?

Obama came over a decent genuine man but his balls were in a republican vice

And in a final show of disrespect to the office of President, Trump says he wont be attending Biden's inauguration.

Trump is now returning to type with his latest tweets, after that strange, back-covering, autocue statement he gave yesterday.

He loves his 'patriots' again - maybe even his stormtroopers who only yesterday were going to 'pay' for following his lead!

I wonder if this is the point where the Republican Party splits - into conservatives and Trumpists (although some of the hardcore won't forgive him for denouncing them - however insincere he was).

Six weeks ago I thought it was the Democrats who would struggle to hold their two wings together, and the Repubicans who were united in Trump-love. Not sure now.

Who knows? They don't do a very good job of selling it to be honest. It's basically not-for-profit health insurance. Most people get their insurance through their employer. Some get it paid 100%, some make contributions. The contributions are deducted from their pay like a tax. It's generally considered to be worth about $8000 a year. However, if you want to add family members you pay about $10,000.

Then when you use your health insurance there are "co-pays" and "deductibles". A visit to the doctor will cost you about $30. A procedure like an MRI or surgery can have a deductible of anything from $500 to $5000 before your insurance kicks in. Then there is the cost of drugs. Some people can spend $1000s a month on their medication. And of course, the insurance companies skim their profits off the top. $35B last year. That's over $1000 for every person in the US. It's a huge scam.

Not a bad thing actually as otherwise his "followers" would likely turn up to disrupt the event. I'm hoping the whole inauguration thing will be done behind closed doors and just beamed live on TV.

Not a great surprise really, considering the man's rhetoric over the last couple of months, particulary these past few days.
Him not showing up is small potatoes

Shame really. Can you imagine the ratings if he was there?
Bigger than the who shot JR episode.

    It really is a disgrace.
You pay a fortune, then the co-pay.
We had to pay $500 for my Mrs to have an MRI scan last month despite paying for full insurance.

Health Insurance the Pharma industry and the actual hospital companies are immoral.
    As are US Universities.
