In the last 20 years the best 3 managers we've had have all been sacked - Jones, Mackay and Warnock. Of them all, I felt Mackay's sacking was the most unjustified. Jones failed at Sheffield Wednesday. Mackay did nothing after he was with us. Warnock is Warnock and he's got Boro doing ok.

The bizarre one in all of this is Solskjaer, who was rubbish for us, but has taken Man Utd to the top of the Premier League this season and they now look to be challengers again. Who'd have thunked that?
Frank Burrows to Portsmouth in 1989 is the answer.

Before him, it was Len Ashurst to Sunderland in 1984.

I also though Neal was doing ok. But, just checking, W4 D4 L12 in his first 20 games.

1996/97 W5 D2 L4 in his 11 games and I was disappointed he went to be assistant to Coppell at Man C. Coppell quit after 1 month with stress, and Neal became manager there. They had a bad run of managers at the time. Horton, Ball, Coppell, Neal, Frank Clark, Joe Royle, Keegan and Pearce.

Neal at Man C W2 D1 L7.
