its hardly the arena its being described as but its a perfect size for a lot of bands that don't like playing the 10000 seater enormo domes like the NEC ........
Cardiff is building one of those and for me it will be great to be able to see bands like TOOL etc that have a huge stage show and are one of the worlds biggest rock bands , also your take that type nonsense will have somewhere in the city to play
I am amazed that apart from the university Cardiff has no decent venues
The tramshed is good but has a capacity of just 1000
Newport has the Newport Centre , a 2000 plus standing and seating venue where over the years I have seen slayer , pantera , Alice in Chains etc
These sort of bands were never going to play a place like Cardiff University or The Tramshed
The Fall would have done , at a push
So we have the ridiculous situation where we have Swansea and Newport having decent , mid sized venues and music fans have to travel to either of these two cities or even to Bristol to see a band ........unless its at a small venue
Humbug

Sadly, I think that the Newport Centre is being knocked down.
Talking of gigs any decent ones coming our way before Christmas? Cardiff could really do with a decent venue that holds 1500/2000
tell me about it , the worst thing is when some twat puts his girlfriend on his shoulder and you can't see a thing
In venues with a poor view , it makes things even worse
Seen some great bands there over the years though , deftones, rancid , mastodon , motor head, clutch , biffy Clyro, anthrax , fear factory , feeder
Newport Centre is far better
Is that maindee side ?
Yes , saw loads of bands at tjs , a great , safe venue
Sick Of It All , Wildhearts , Raging Speedhorn , Feeder , great place
I think he was of Maltese origin wasn't he ?
Used to drive in , watch a band with my mates then pop over the road for a kebab
Great memories
Newport is like a mini cardiff in every way , Pill , where we were clearly drinking unbeknown to us was fine , never had any hassle
Dub War , now Skindred played at tjs in the early days , he was a pill boy , Benji webbe , I think he's related to the webbe family in Cardiff, nice bloke
I’m not sure if John had Maltese in him or not.
He definitely had Seychelles blood.
He was a cook in the Merchant Navy before settling down and always cooked for the bands that played there.
This is a great song about John...written and performed by Jon Langford of The Mekons.
