How is this a shocking indictment of Britain, and not instead, a shocking indictment of Nazi Germany?

          first headline

Jewish and Russian prisoners were starved, beaten and shot on Alderney after Churchill abandoned the island to the Germans. Britain investigated the crimes after the war — and then covered them up

now the question is, did Churchill really abandon them, i always thought it was decided that we were unable to defend the islands and they really didnt offer alot of advantage to the Germans so were not worth trying to defend

The Allies failed to recapture Dunkirk during WW2. The German commandant only surrendered 2 days after the rest of Germany had given up after a long siege by Allied forces
