Never heard of the author or the organization publishing this before but I'll put the illogical fallacy around that to one side.

To quote the author in this very piece, there is "no direct evidence" to support any theory circulating.

What is indisputable is the existence of zoonosis. So humanity being prepared for more zoonotic events wherever they occur is the important point here.

Without evidence, blaming China (a la Trump) is sinophobia.

I read most of that, very long, article and it was pretty persuasive even if parts of it were much too technical for me. The writer's Wikipedia entry is interesting;-

because, if nothing else, it shows he has upset the scientific community in the past and it might be said he has something of an agenda.

and, again, seems pretty convincing, but, rather like the first article, it is too technical really for me and, I would guess, for the overwhelming majority of of people on here.

What I would say is that if you take away all of the specialised stuff, the theory that the virus was man made rather than occurred naturally appears to be based to a large degree on the close proximity between where it first occurred and a laboratory specialising in coronaviruses. For me, this seems a hard situation to argue against, but I come back to what I said in my first message in this thread - it seems impossible for the most powerful countries in the rest of the world not to have had any notion of what China was. allegedly, up to and yet their response indicates that they didn't.

On the other hand, Wade alleges that Americans, and I suppose scientists from other countries, colluded with the Chinese in creating the virus.

For me, this part of the Forbes article rings truest;-

"But the second reason is truly chilling: the reason so many people have died is because of a global political failure to respond appropriately."

No one has proof but lab leak is by far the more very reasoned argument.

Wuhan is a key world wide investigation Covid lab.

Fauci invested in it's work ( for the good of the world) and Dr Shi Zhengli was working on other Covid viruses.

I'm sure the Chinese virologist were doing their best to get ahead of what might become a threat and happen anyway, sadly something went wrong .

It's very sad the Chinese government could not allowed an independent investigation body into Wuhan early on to show an openness and desire to let the world know how this happened .

The fact they didn’t let them investigate it properly at the start will always make them look guilty. It’s gone on to another level now mind. It will only take a new variant that escapes the vaccines and everything is phucked again, chance are this will happen at some point particularly here in the uk where our government appears useless.
