Is London Calling the greatest British album of all time its such a mix of sound and such a recognition of an urban city life
Rubber Soul Beatles
Zep , Cream
So many contenders
I am not a clash fan but its a very good album
Kinks did some fantastic stuff
Yardbirds
Zep had a very good mix of blues , rock , folk , etc going on
Great British Bands might be a better title
Been struck by the many references it receives in interviews and music books from famous artist around the world, It features in a lot of greatest albums of all time like the Rolling Stone .
I've seen so many live bands who play a version of the Clash songs in thier encores.
Personal taste, innit? And when one had one's impressionable and formative years perhaps.
that album came in at number 8 from NME's poll back in 2006

It is a marquee album of that era with one of the great front covers and the title track is instantly recognisable.
Best ever album, probably not, but it is subjective. I would probably plump for the Kinks or LED Zep.
Spirit of Eden, Talk Talk
Guns of Brixton
Spanish Bombs
Lost in the Supermarket
Are simply wonderful tracks.
Favourite though is “Straight to Hell”
Rolling Stone is shite matey. Have you ever read it? it started off as a great music mag as part of the counter-culture years in the US between 67-69 but as the decade turned, it soon became middle-of-the road tosh. If you believe what any of their so called 'expert's in music write about, you might as well listen to the Times or Telegraph's music correspondent's.
Over-rated. They were a good band, no more than that.
