    Re: Ruskies at the Olympics

Quite a few Manx Olympians over the years, most recently Cycling, Yak won a gold & Cav a Silver in Rio. Historically shooting & walking have had strong Manx representation. It says British Islands, Isle of Man on their passports. With regards to representation, my kids could choose to represent the Island, Wales, Ireland or England if they wanted, based on Grandparents.

on the negative side on 5 live they called the hockey team "England" earlier

probably suits Putin just fine to have an external enemy.

Pity there are no spectators. They could have used the carried on as Russia and got the full treatment from the onlookers. I'm sure Putin wouldn't have enjoyed that.

As the situation is, it's like someone getting sent off and coming back on as a sub with a different name on the back of their shirt. I wonder if anyone's ever tried to pull that one?

Did athletes declare they were in the official Russia doping regime?

                Re: Ruskies at the Olympics

It worked better in the rio games, under the " independent athletes " banner , the Russians had to be training outside Russia and prove they were drug free

                  Other athletes are complaining now.
The Russian Olympic Committee are fourth in the medal table at the Tokyo Games but their athletes are facing questions from fellow competitors about whether they should even be there.

Only the ones with no hair on the back of their hands are allowed to participate.

                        Poor show.

State sponsored doping is more than likely still going on.

How about the athletes who have missed out on medals because of them

                        Farcical in the extreme.

                          Re: Ruskies at the Olympics

                          part of me thinks:

Let's see the governing body do what it can to combat homophobia and have these atheletes compete under a rainbow banner. Because let's be blunt- that would irritate the shit out of a lot of pig-ignorant Russians including a lot of those in power. But then it rather undermines the whole spirit of equality if you use the flag as a slur because of the ignorant way it will be received, and that doesn't really help anyone.

So I am back to banning the lot of them to be honest. Nation states still mean something even in the 21st century, and the one they have come from is rotten. Not their fault, but if you want to punish the State then you have to punish its citizens, because that might drive change.

I admit that my rather extreme views are affected by having had to deal with the frankly mob-like Russian state this week, as well as private organisations there who seemingly have absolutely no sense of right or wrong. It's a snake pit and I'm glad I rarely have to deal with it.

It’s wrong that Russian athletes are allowed to compete at all.
                            It’s Russia but unofficial Russia?

Are the IOC as corrupt as FIFA?

we should allow drugs just to see just how good the human body can really perform
