An average size dog, a family pet, produces about 1 ton of CO2 annually. So two dogs do the same environmental damage as one cow.
A cow gives us meat, milk, and leather. A dog gives us friendship.
Additionally dogs tend to be fed commercial food, which has an environmental cost, whilst cows eat mainly natural food.
