Today's defeat was City's fourth in the last five league matches and let's be honest here - the team's performance in the first half of the one game they have managed to win recently was utterly awful.

Mick McCarthy's reign as Cardiff manager began brightly enough, but the team's record in the last 20 league games under him is as follows:

Won 6, drawn 7, lost 7.

The six teams City managed to beat during that run were Swansea, Wycombe, who are now in League One, a Birmingham side that was full of youngsters and reserves, newly-promoted Blackpool, draw specialists Millwall and struggling Nottingham Forest. Not the the toughest of opponents at this level

Meanwhile, Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough slumped to another defeat at Reading earlier today. Boro have won just one of their last seven Championship games - a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest.

While the Championship looks weak this season, it seems the prehistoric football served up by Messrs McCarthy and Warnock is cutting little mustard.

I'll admit I was one of the "if we're winning I don't care" brigade, but we've been found out big time over the last few matches. The lack of real quality in our squad is scary and we're now not even good at what we should be good at.

People are talking about the possibility of City being dragged into a relegation scrap. Middlesbrough fans must be thinking the same about their team. In their last seven games, Boro have played QPR, Derby, Blackburn, Coventry, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool and Reading. The only side out of that lot they managed to beat was Forest.

I've long been of the opinion that the ideal time for Warnock to retire would have been straight after guiding City to promotion in 2018. Things could have been very different for both the Bluebirds and Warnock had that happened. But he just couldn't leave it there. Instead, City are still paying a heavy price for his poor purchases and he's almost certainly going to end up having been sacked from his final two jobs in football.

I've was never taken in by the spiel he spews out at every club he goes to.

I think you can get away with what's called Dinosaur football if you add pace and the odd fella like Tomlin who has exceptional flair.

It won't provide a long term development though, modern football has to come from the development squads and mindset of the boardroom ( see Brentford for way forward and reference )

We're now a club who are clueless and doing it on the cheap. Never going to end well.

He'll probably end up with a team of kids if Tan and the gang get their way.

You're right, how many times has Hoillet bailed us out in the past, Tomlin, we have no plan B or flair player to do that now.

Think Dalman said after Warnock resigned that he offered his resignation and Dalman tried to talk him into staying. How much of that was true and not just saying it I dunno, writing was on the wall.
