So you condone teachers or lecturers being able to throw things at learners? If you are happy with just a bit of cardboard, where does it stop?

Just a cardboard, if he threw a large heavy object at the feckless student then its serious and wrong. Pathetic.

Our games teacher used to pull the short hair, just in front of your ear, bloody painful. Chalk board rubbers & wooden rulers here as well.

Games teachers were vile , ours introduced us to murder ball ,few bruised kids ,sadly the very teacher suffered a broken collar bone in one game , it was played with a large heavy leather ball in a gym , being smashed into the wooden climbing frames was so much fun, happy days.

So throwing things at kids should be based on size and weight?

It's not about what he threw. It's that he threw something. He exercised poor judgment. And he set a terrible example.

I call my mates twats and do a lot of other things in a pub that a teacher shouldn't do in the classroom

Sounds like a fair criteria as any.

He could have spat at the kid, a small mass of phlegm isn't likely to weigh too much. I wonder if LOM would have been ok with that? After all it would pass the weight criterion.

Re: Lecturer sacked for throwing cardboard at sleeping pupil

Mid 70s had a little disagreement with another kid in class.
Two 9 year olds scrapping over the desks.
The teacher broke us up and told the other kid to put his hand out.
6 of the best followed with a wooden ruler.
He turned to me and said hand out for my six.
On the fifth one the ruler snapped and i thought I was getting away with it.
                        Boy was I wrong
He went and got another ruler and finished off the sixth so I went and sat down.
He asked me why had I sat down as he hadn't punished me for breaking the ruler.
So I was given another six for damaging school property 😆
                        Different times.

It was normal behaviour back then lol

I know. That's half of the problem.

My dad's dad used to reguarly beat him with his belt. My dad thought that was horrendous but would think nothing of giving me and my sister an almighty slapping. I have once slapped my son, who is now 8, when I lost it with him. I felt awful about it.

that's nothing. My PE teacher would flay us alive ,make us play murder ball in our undies then kill us bury us, Dance on our graves then makes us do twenty laps of the footy pitch.
