Old Splott pub, been out with ‘err indoors’ tonight talking shit n stuff, and we couldn’t remember the boozer we frequented often when we lived at 112 moorland road, opposite the fleurs, there was a like triangular island and the pub was on a corner anybody remember the name ?
Ruperra?
[QUOTE=MacAdder;5240112]Ruperra?[/QUOTE
Nice one cheers, not the moorlands Mike, remember that one, it was often frequented, but the Ruperra it was
The Roop....affectionately known as The Orchard in years gone by due the rough cider on offer.
Are there ANY pubs left in Splott? At one time, it was like there was one on every corner.
I used to work at the nearby ASW (GKN) steelworks. I always remember calling in the Grosvenor after a 2-10pm shift for a quick pint, before getting the works' bus home. It prompted me to look online to see if it was still there (yeah, I know ) and I came across this article....

The local councillor says there is only one pub in the area, and that article dates back to 2010!
The only one I can think of is The Cottage, on Sanquahar Street. There's also the Clifton, and the Royal Oak, but do they count?
Loads have disappeared around that area.
The Tredegar always looked a tad lively when I had the misfortune to wander past…..
The Roath Carlylian Club has been The Old Illtydians Club for a number of years now. The other pub you mention I imagine is The Cardiff Arms on Railway St (the pub, the recently retired Coomber had before The Canton), sadly, now a block of flats as is The Grosvenor, Ruperra & The Moorlands. Apart from Splott Cons & Fleur’s (not The Fleurs as some call it, it was named after the woman who owned it, although the sign outside now reads The New Fleurs) Splott is moving towards being the new Temperance Town.
Got married in St Alban’s RC church……….now there’s some a day to forget!
Grangetown is the same
The last thirty years I’ve seen the demise of so many “characterful boozers”
There’s only two left
The Grange and The Cornwall 😩
The Red House
The Plymouth
Lord Windsor
Bird in Hand
Pub on the Mud
The Baronness
Charlie’s
The Neville
Brian’s place on the corner of North Clive street I forget the name of 😆
All RIP
I guess it's a lot to do with how you define Splott. I was about to suggest the Moria, and the Splotlands, but were they in Splott, or in Adamsdown?
And what about the Bertram, the Locomotive, or the New Dock Tavern? Roath?
