The Shining , mainstream film
Only decades later did it get the recognition[/QUOTE
I don't think that's true, It turned a decent profit at the time of release.
I agree, I think it stands up very well now, but it's no cult film.
Just because it was overlooked by some?
See what I did there!
I went to see Shawshank when it came out. It had a mighty run of 3 nights in the UCI Jackland. On general release it sunk without a trace. Since then it's often on people's favourite lists of all time.
Hardly call it a cult film though.
Wild at Heart
The Elephant Man
Raging Bull
Any Tarantino film
I’ll add The Wickerman and Loneliness of a long distance runner to this list.
Another terrific film that. I watched Bad News the other day, it's much more silly than Spinal Tap but I still found it very funny after all these years.
I've been called many things but never a nerd. I'll take that though. The Shining is not a cult film all the same
The Blues Brothers.
$115 million before going to video...described as a cult classic. Is there a difference between a cult film and a cult classic?
The Football Scene is incredible.
I tried posting it last night but it wouldn't hyperlink for some reason.

If you a classic football scene in a cult film then Gregory's Girl fits the bill perfectly.
