KD...Constant Craving
Karen Carpenter Eva Cassidy
Kate Bush and Dusty Springfield immediately spring to mind.
Amy Winehouse!!
Was never a fan of the Carpenters, but Karen had a great voice. This lady had a remarkable range as well.

Interesting that by far the majority of fav female voices emanate from white ladies - whereas the majority of male fav vocal cords are owned by our black brethren.
(Tried hard to express this according to current PC protocol - and prolly failed)
Sarah Vaughan, Stevie Nicks
Dorothy Squires & Charlotte Church
No Whitney?
Some brilliant suggestions above mind

Franklin, Springfield, Carpenter were miles better than her.
Hell, a load of X Factor singers were better than her !
Pick any two from Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Aretha Franklin. I can never make my own mind up which of the 3 would be my favourite.
'Best' is very subjective and down to personal choice.
I've already posted, but could probably post alternative choices throughout the day.
Sandy Denny
Marlena Shaw
I love this performance by Sister Rosetta Sharp. Born in a town called 'Cotton Plant' in Arkansas, she is playing, a tad incongruously perhaps, at a disused railway station in Manchester. I hope it will cheer up the miserable buggers on here for a few minutes at least
