What’s the position regarding November and the World Cup? Usually I would guess that this game would be played during an international break like Kevin McNaughton’s was if I remember rightly. I’m thinking that international players are likely to be away in training camps or playing pre World Cup games, so the chances of getting any big name current players or teams may be low, but there’s still the potential for a memorable and appropriate memorial for Whitts anyway with some sort of past masters game.

Why November when we got all summer to organise something brilliant for all the family?
Exactly, why a wet, freezing cold November night, when it could be arranged pre-season, sun shining and new players to show off.

I presume because of the World Cup.
The pre season would be better, it could be a Peter Whittingham tournament.
All the more reason for having it earlier, so fans don’t stay home watching World Cup games
