Whilst it is true that there are ethnic Russians who have sought greater ties with Russia, even going as far as declaring breakaway republics, you make this sound like it is all first language Russian speakers - it is not, not by a country mile.

Just to put this into context, Zelenskyy is first language Russian, and he is as Ukrainian as they come. Language in Russia does not define nationhood, much the same way we can be Welsh but speak English.
