Ironically did not Yanukovych going against the peoples wishes of closer association with the EU start this?

Was there Russian meddling to elect Yanukovych in the first place?

What pushed Russia over the edge into action was Ukrainian shelling of it's own citizens in Donbass. Which went against the Minsk Agreements that Ukraine consistently flouted.
The West turned a blind eye because in truth Zelensky was under control of the Americans. so, Russia had no choice but to act in order to.protect Russian speakers.

Not at all, Russia started it all back in 2014 didn’t they by taking Crimea no? Way before zelensky the coke head was in the scene? It’s not Western Europe’s or the west in generals fault that Ukraine doesn’t want anything to do with Russia, the west will never invade Russia will they? Why? Crimea had partial independent status with Ukraine when the Soviet Union disbanded in 1991.

In 1995, Ukraine toppled the Crimean government and annexed the Island.

In 2014 the Crimeans took the Island back from Ukraine.

The Russian speakers want away from Ukraine and closer ties to Russia. Ukraine keep denying them this.

Russia definitely had the option of not invading Ukraine, not arming seprarists in the east for years etc and Europe would have gone on buying their gas and trading happily with them.

And what about Ukraine continually shelling ethnic Russians in the Donbass? Against the Minsk Agreements.
Is eveyone just meant to ignore that and focus on the Western media narrative?

oh come on, the Russian backed separatists have been shelling the Ukrainians who want the Dombas to remain part of the Ukraine, it isnt one sided as well you know, if it wasn't for Azov them Ukrainians from the dombas would have been killed in 2014

It was one sided, the Ukrainians upped their shelling of Donbass in February of this year, prior to Putin acting.
And correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't the Donbass held democratic elections that clearly stated a desire for independence from Ukraine? Something the US/EU backed Ukrainians ignored.

No it wasn't one sided, the Russian backed separatists have always been active, otherwise Azov would have driven them out, but have always been met with quality Russian hardware

Democratic, if you count the ability to vote a number of times democratic ( witnessed by the BBC and CNN ) then yes, and if you count the fact that the separatist leader and Russian leader had a phone call ( which was leaked a few days before the result ) about postponing the referendum a few days before it was due to happen, but the Russian insisted it go ahead as he had communications with Putin and was told that the referendum should be 89% in favour of independence a number of days before the referendum, which just so happened to come back with a result of 89% in favour, again, Yes :shrug: but having said that, the Ukrainians were also at it, with area's which they knew would vote for independence only given a few polling stations with the idea that they wouldn't be able to get through enough votes and clashes with the Ukrainian national guards, it doesn't really sound like democracy
