This documentary looks interesting
Why does Cardiff and Newport have such a tradition of boxing ?
Is it the docks ?
I mean you don't hear of many boxers from Coventry or Stoke ?

They said he was kept away from Bruno because he would have floored him
I dont think Cardiff and Newport have a bigger boxing tradition than other cities.
Merthyr in particular and the Valleys definitely.
He'd have sunk Bruno for sure. Hell of a heavy handed fighter. Shame his career went the way it did but it was clearly the right decision to refuse him a license. Shame he lost his health and life the way he did.
Not a bad career for a cruiser and would have smashed bigger heavyweights had he had the chance!
It was a hard watch was that. On one hand you really feel for him, it is his life after all and he would have felt he was denied opportunities. Given how long he ultimately had as well, part of you thinks why not just let him get on with it.
The bbbofc rep was absolutely right though ultimately, it is of course their directive to put these guys health first after all.
Good little documentary, didn't realise how good he really was but he looked very dangerous indeed prior to that European fight.
Nottingham does ok - Leigh Wood carrying from Carl Froch. Both world champs
He and his family lived next door to my Mother when they were kids in Pill.
Most of his Brothers boxed as well.
