Thread: Should there be a level playing field?

  1. #1

Should there be a level playing field?

It seems the bigger Clubs are getting bigger and the so-called smaller Clubs are just fodder. Two examples Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth and now Dundee Utd 0-9 Celtic. Is it the right way to let those Clubs have a Super League and let the rest get on with a chance of being the best in the League they play in?
The game it seems is losing its appeal for the fan who isn’t a championship chaser.

    No.

Liverpool 9 Bournemouth 0 was a freak result. Such a scoreline has only been achieved four times in the history of the Premier League.

It’s football. These things happen from time to time in every league in the world.

What about Liverpool's other results this season?

You are probably right but I can see Man City handing out some right hammerings this season.

Maybe, but the last two sides to win 9-0 in the top flight were Man Utd under the great OGS and Leicester City.

I don't understand why any Cardiff City supporter would think this.

That's the question you asked wasn't it ?

We have got no chance of ever being a top 6 big club , the best we can hope for is a second rate Premier league ......if that's what you are arguing for

The big clubs are only interested in money and status so yes , I hope they piss off and join big clubs from Germany, Spain etc

It's a logical process as far as I am concerned

Re: Should there be a level playing field?

The first 9-0 result in the Premier League was in 1995. Sometimes it just happens.

Re: Should there be a level playing field?

Until the football rules are changed and the finances of clubs are properly monitored there will never be a level playing field.
Football is basically bent the higher up the pyramid you go the more bent it is.

I've said the plastics should have a super duper league for years now. Let them play one another 4 times per season and let the rest of us get on with it

Liverpool have won once in four games this season. Bournemouth got promoted and spent almost no money. Add to that, they're managed by Scott Parker. Superleague?

But the fact is there never has been a level playing field. The bigger clubs have always had significant and obvious advantages over the smaller clubs. It’s not a new development.

The question has always been whether or not they can use those advantages to build the best teams. Some do, some don’t. Same as it ever was.

Well now you are supporting Cardiff City again that's great but the only people you are supporting by paying for live football is the fat cats at the top

Re: Should there be a level playing field?

FA to limit 3 non-british players per club. (not non-english - that would screw us!

Re: Should there be a level playing field?

Out of curiosity, who would be in this Superleague? And why would it make things better? Clubs not getting hammered 9-0 by Liverpool? Palace seem to be doing OK. I'd take a 9-0 hammering by Liverpool next week.

Re: Should there be a level playing field?

Why the need to mention the Premier League, it’s just the top flight division, always has been in whatever guise. Wolves shoved 9 on us in the 50s in the top flight, Preston did as well in the 60s albeit in the second division. Christ, Cambridge hit 7 against us at Ninian Park, we didn’t suggest they be fast tracked to Serie A

I'm surprised no one has suggested this before 🙄

I think it would be better for all of us if you kept TLG's bollocks out of this.

Wigan beat Hull 8-0 in July 2020. I sincerely hope they are being considered for a place in the proposed Super League.
