Re: Call centres and customer service

I rang a call center recently about my cell phone bill. I could tell the bloke on the end of the line had no clue what was I was talking about and he just kept repeating the same sentence. I could barely understand him either. My bill had been $140 for the last 3 months instead of $90 because they added a nonexistent line, so I've been paying for 4 lines instead of 3. I tried in vain to get the money refunded but eventually just settled on the reassurance that I would only be paying $90 from now on. Checked my bill this morning $140.

My cell phone carrier is connected to my cable/internet provider. I think I'm going to switch all three. I still have the hardware for the previous provider in my basement.

I have been trying to activate a barclay card app on my phone for the last 5 days. They wanted so many different thing on the first go that I (not being ready for the volume and having no pen ready) forgot half of it.
They wanted a 5 digit number then a 6 digit then a 4 digit and when they later asked for one there was no indication of which one they wanted so it was pure guess work, then a username (what's wrong with my name? I use it for my other cards) then a memorable word then a word to remind me what my memorable word was in case it was so unmemorable that I forgot it. totally OTT.
They then cut me off and when I tried later they kept asking for the information and kept rejecting it. A 55 minute phone call to a lady in India did nothing to resolve the situation and they are now asking me if I have a card reader or they will send me one which will take 5 days.
In the mean time they are contacting me asking why I haven't started using my wonderful card.

My son has worked in call centres.
Some of the pond life he had deal with was ridiculous.
Grumpy illiterate old tossers who were Billy big balls on the phone but wouldn't fart near an old lady in real life.

They must get some grief. I wouldn't/Couldn't do that kind of work, i have a penchant towards ****ing people off if they start with attitude in the work place. They must go home with a headache some days.

I find once you get through most are very helpful

My bank is mostly staffed by Indian people and the English is better than most people over here speak and you can get into chats with them , very interesting

Re: Call centres and customer service

My nephew who worked in Admiral after leaving college had James Corden on the phone who started with "let's get this sorted right now".

It wasn't sorted there and then and he had to go on hold.

When my nephew came back on the phone to apologise for the wait, he had the classic "Don't you know who I am?"

My nephew has a very dry wit for a young man and said something along the lines of "Its OK Mr Corden, you've passed the security questions...".

He was fuming apparently and asked to speak to the manager but nothing ever came of it.

                          Tosser.

People are always worse on the phone, and it's got worse since covid, but if you have the right skills you can calm them down in seconds, the problem is the standards are through the floor and most of the staff don't really care in companies like talktalk.

I don't blame them for £9.50 per hour, over worked and probably demotivated. If i had to work under those conditions then i would pull every stroke known to man in order to do the minimum required.

My sons favourite trick was getting an older person who were normally the salt of the earth and were usually Lonely and just wanted to chat then he would sort their problem for them then keep the chat going normally near the end of a shift so he could finish on time.
My son trapped in his bedroom for the duration of covid putting up with shit on the phone didn't do his mental health any good.
