Identity is often a moving feast, sometimes cherry-picking historical interpretations regarding a certain point in time - and which is often romanticised. For my part, I think much of culture is embedded in the native languages rather than hoisting up a flag that once belonged to a prince or aristocrat who had little in common with the common people.
