    Re: Fawlty Towers to return

Cleese used to play Basil Fawlty. Now he is Basil Fawlty (but not as funny).

It seemed like Fawlty Towers had been around for ages but I was surprised to learn that there were only ever 12 episodes made
Probably all the repeats from the good old BBC 🤔

So the guy who complains he's not on telly anymore, finally gets his chance and comes up with quite an original concept.

Classic example. Still Open All Hours. David Jason’s worst ever.

I was surprised to learn he was only 37 when they were making it. I had him much older!

Not sure that they will be able to match the original but we shall see.
Overrated anyway, not a patch on Only fools and horses.

Only Fools and Horses went on far too long.

It got poor at the end.

Also Fawley Towers different league in my opinion.

                  Re: Fawlty Towers to return

Only Fools and Horses was probably the best British comedy series ever made
                  Absolutely hilarious
Jolly Boys Outing was a classic
Delboy entering Rodney into a competition which he won and the prize was a holiday in Spain
He had to pretend he was a kid then winning the Spanish lottery
                  Genius script writing
Everyone has got their favourites and your able to watch over and over again
Timeless classic comedy at its best 🤩

Crap towards the end, should have finished well before its slow death. Fawlty Towers timeline was spot on and, while Only Fools and Horses was funny, it was nowhere near the class of Fawlty Towers. I’ve watched repeats of Fools and Horses and enjoyed the jokes as much as I enjoy listening to a favourite song, I know all the words. With Fawlty Towers repeats, I’ve noticed little funny scenarios going on in the background that I hadn’t noticed before, genius.

I think it was predictable and unsophisticated pleb fodder of the highest order.

The new FT might be alright but its biggest issue will be coming up against 50 year aura that's built up around it.

                          Re: Fawlty Towers to return

I would put Only Fools and Horses in the same bracket as "til death us do part" or "Reggie Perrin".
Decent story lines easy watching, laughter occasionally but dated.

FT was not only the best situation comedy of its time it has also stood the test of time and is still brilliant.

It's a risk to try and continue from where they left off, In sickness and in Health was an example of not living up to the hype, just hope the writing of this new series is as good as the originals.

                            Re: Fawlty Towers to return

John Cleese is a daft old daily mail racist these days

                            It will flop

Last of the summer wine ...another load of old cobblers

Only fools and horses was tripe , canned laughter

Fawlty Towers was immense for its time

                            Just 12 episodes ?

                            Same as The Office

Series after Series of the same old stuff

Ironic, you don’t think Fawlty Towers could be made today because people would complain and yet apparently you’re the wetwipe
