This valuation clearly ignores his unfortunate medical condition that causes extreme facial pain for him if someone puts their hand on his chest.

There was general bemusement at that story a few weeks back about Perry Ng being valued at £3.5 million. I was surprised as well, but looking at his form this season and his contribution in the vital wins we've gained in the last ten days in particular, I'd love to know how much we paid for him because I reckon we may well have got ourselves a real bargain.
For me, Ng now is better suited to playing centreback than he is full back or wing back - his recent performances have been better in the middle than they've been out wide. Last season, he showed his quality as a defender and at passing out from the back, but there was also a tendency to make mistakes which cost us goals - those mistakes haven't completely disappeared, but they've been much less frequent this season.
A question about Ng at centreback which hasn't been answered yet is could he do the job as part of a two (flat back four) as well as in a three? He's always likely to be targeted by sides with taller strikers, but, certainly, in a three, I'd say that's a risk worth taking because of what he can give us when we play that way with wing backs. I'll come onto why serious thought has to be given about whether it is worth contemplating reverting to four defenders soon, but, for me, I think Ng brings us so much as part of a three that we'd have to bring in an improvement on Kipre in the summer to make a move to a flat back four worthwhiile.
If you look at the five goals we scored in the crucial wins over Watford and Rotherham, three of them were reliant on Ng being able to get into a position about forty yards from goal in an inside right channel as he moved forward out of the back three. At Watford, he became the extra man in midfield for the first and third goals as he supplied a good pass through to Rinomhota in the build up for the first goal and clipped in a lovely cross which led to Kaba's spectacular third goal. At Rotherham, Philogene and Romeo (who had a fine game on Thursday and came up with a remarkable headed clearance from a corner when Rotherham looked certain to score) created the space for Ng to put in a beautiful first time cross for Etete to score our first.
I reckon Ng's role as a creator owes much to Sabri Lamouchi and his coaching staff because it's something that has started to happen more in recent weeks. Whatever the reason for it though, making more use of Ng's abilities as a passer and crosser is going some way to giving us some of the creativity from open play that we've, rightly, been accused of lacking through this season.
The embargo we're under is going to make the sort of changes we need to become more than bottom quarter of the Championship strugglers harder to achieve than they might have been otherwise, but one thing we can do is try our hardest to get the likes of Ng, McGuinness and Wintle to sign new contracts with us this summer - in Ng's case, that £3.5 million valuation may not look so far fetched if he was signed up with us for another two or three years.
This valuation clearly ignores his unfortunate medical condition that causes extreme facial pain for him if someone puts their hand on his chest.
That part of his game annoys me as well, but I'm afraid it's modern football for you - Ng may be worse than most when it comes to gamesmanship, but everyone is guilty of it to some degree these days and I'd be pretty certain that he's not getting anyone at City reading him the riot act about it.
Ng putting in crosses to Kaba has given us a goal threat we simply didn't have for much of the season.
I think a £3.5m valuation is way over the top - whilst he's a tidy player, for me he doesn't stand out in any particular aspect of the game. Let's hope he can continue to improve both defensively and in attacking areas- players like him will need to improve if we're going to avoid another relegation battle next season.
Some people don’t like him but I think he’s had a great season, versatile and always puts a shift in.
He's an accomplished footballer with good technique. Playing in a back 3 with Kipre and McGuiness suits him perfectly as their strengths really complement each other.
If rather him at right back. Hes ok in a 3 in the middle. I wouldn't want him as a regular in a 2 in the middle.
He's a capable player but his antics are embarrassing
I don't like that in a player at all especially when he's wearing a Cardiff shirt
£3.5 mill is way off the mark. Based on the last two seasons average to lower-average players have no value. Clubs sign them for free when their contracts end and their salary establishes a kind of value. I can't see that changing much this season outside the Premier League relegated
Lamouchi has been around the block a bit and appears to be pragmatic. Whereas Morison thought Perry would stride out of the back carrying the ball like a scouse Backenbaur, Lamouchi has him pushed right up supporting play almost like a defensive midfielder, and although I will question some of his passing attempts he has a much better delivery than Romeo.
I just think we have a manager who is wrangling every sinew from Perry.
He is never a back 4 centre half, when used as a right back he is a defensive right back similar to a Peltier, so we shouldn't need two or even three defensive midfielders shielding but creating nothing like we did with Hudson
He's a decent player in our current climate
Ng played several games at centre-back in a back four earlier this season. I don't remember it going particularly well.
Interesting stat on sky, he has had more touches than anyone else this season (and I think more passes? Can’t remember the other stat)
I'm still bemused at his valuation, especially given his schoolboy lack of professionalism to concede the goal against Rotherham
I've spoken up for Ng many times on this site, though I appreciate not everyone thinks the same way. I like him as a player mainly because he doesn't take any shit off anyone, and makes the most of his abilities. In fact, in recent months he's become one of the more important players in the team, and was sorely missed in the home game v Huddersfield. I certainly don't get all these accusations of gamesmanship and 'rampant shithousery' (whatever that means). I watch City home and away, and I can't see that Ng indulges in excess cheating, diving, or anything else - certainly no more than any other City man. He's a good player - he does his job, plays the game, and stands up for himself - what's not to like?
why didnt he play today
for me, since christmas he has been one of our better players and shows some fight
Players, after the emotional high at Rotherham would have probably got back to Cardiff in the early hours of Friday morning. Maybe a light training day on Saturday and then a noon Sunday kick-off against a team that hadn't played for 10 days. Players who busted a gut might have been at the end of their leash. Others forced to play out of position. Ojo, Sawyers, not so much!
I said in a previous post that if Swansea had got hold of him then he would definitely be a 3 million pound player.
Probably our player of the season, his free kick went a long way to keeping us up. He’s been a brilliant bit of business.
Also voted Player of the season.

To repeat something I said in another thread, how on earth can you have an Academy Player of the Year who’s only ever played under 21 team football for us?
