And it's all very well giving weapons to Ukraine but these don't come for free and the arms manufacturers are really making a good buck and we're all paying for them!

I'm concerned. We can now trade with the rest of the world because of brexit, why is our food inflation so similar to the EU, not Mexico?

    Bit more reality https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/infla...23#main-points

Hate to suggest that some food suppliers and supermarkets are adding to this pain whole they can .

God knows however its recently reported in the FT ": High inflation remains geographically broad-based, even if it is lower in many parts of Asia. Food in particular remains high because of energy and Ukraine.

Perhaps Mexico enjoys its tacos and we enjoy better quality of food which comes at a price. They also have very low average base salary which keeps manfacturing costs down .

I love tacos and we aren't talking about nominal amounts we are talking about percentage increases, the only people I know who have had pay rises in line with food inflation is large company CEOs (but we aren't allowed to talk about/question that)

You can talk about whatever you like , these very CEO's and others of there ilk are the powerhouse decision makers , they do provide jobs and security I guess to millions as well , its not all about government so many variables now in this global marketplace . as wi the recession the supermarket , an others have seen an opportunity to realign its prices and profits , some go under as well , running corporations cannot have been easy in this last 5 years with so many markets and supply chains squeezed .

its called drawing a new line in the sand ,

Inflation coming down slowly as is the energy prices , fuel is down , interest rates up , wage demands up , perfect storm , need a war on our streets to make us realise how easy we have it and how very tough it could be .

I'm sure someone has some new ideas ,god knows who though to fix this the IMF & BoE appear to be reversing their opinions ?

There is absolutely no justification for that, assuming your circumstances haven't changed of course. My last car insurance company tried the same with me. When I asked them to justify the increase (when inflation is around 10%) all I got was the usual "computer say no" response, so I switched to another company and the quote was actually slightly cheaper than I had paid the year before!

More to the point, if we are in the business of fact-checking..then what about Taffy Blue saying "the govt are doing Jack all to address inflation..esp energy costs."

They (we!) have spent £37bn on the energy support scheme. Almost exactly £100m a day! On what planet is that 'jack all'?!
Lucky Brexit got done. The amount saved will cover that.

I think something £5 billion [of taxpayers' money] has gone in providing weapons to Ukraine, and yes, as with all wars folk are making money.

Our car insurance -renewed this week - has gone from £190 to £260, that's close to 40% increase. Inflation is, I'm sure, close to 20% not 8 or 9%. Drinks, meals, holidays, all rocketing up with no end in sight. The government spent close to half a trillion pounds on Covid. The simple rule of inflation is if you increase the amount of money in circulation with the same amount of goods and services, everything will go up. Apart from fuel it's got bugger all to do with Ukraine/Russia..
