Thread: Ethan Ampadu...

    Ethan Ampadu...

His nickname is going to end up as Jonah or Uncle Albert at this rate.

Watched the Spezia v Hellas Verona match last night where he had a memorable game, not for all the right reasons.

Hope he defends for Wales better than last nights showing although he did look OK going forward.

Crazy game, he scored a screamer and hit the crossbar with a delicate chip too.

He really needs to leave Chelsea, they way they've handled him is piss poor. Two years in a row they've kept him until late August and left him scrambling for a move late in the window, hence Venezia & Spezia

do massive deflections count as screamers these days?

    He's a quality utility player

Imagine him in the engine room at CCFC

he's a quality player and still only 22 so has a high ceiling still, especially as the positions he is playing in tend to mature slightly later.
I wish he would pick a position and specialise in it though, will be better for him in the long run

My apologies, after a quick review I can now see that he scored a tap-in, and also misplaced a pass which accidentally hit the crossbar.

I don't think that it's his choice where he plays, exclusively. He may we'll have a preferred position.

I would play him in front of the back four

Not quite a kav type playmaker but still able to pass from deep

He's no modric but then nor am I

It's his first senior goal. Tap in or screamer I doubt he's bothered.

A clever manager would play him in front of a back four, but also utilise his ability to drop into the CCB position when required. I believe this is the sort of thing that Pochettino does, although I hope Ampadu gets a move away from Chelsea before next season.

Would need a back 3 for an out and out defensive midfielder.

    Which he isn't

The right manager could make it work during specific transitions or defensive situations.

But you would play him in front of a back four? What would his roll be in such a position?

His attempt that hit the crossbar showed what great skill and technique he possesses.

His defending for Verona's first and third goals was abysmal.

I rate Ampadu but he drops more than the occasional bollock.

Didn't Wales try him in that position once? If my memory isn't playing tricks he consistently gave the ball away?

Being a complete hypocrite I always think his skill set is made for that position. He just can't do it!

He's not going to stay put as a defensive midfielder wether that's his role or not

Players of quality with great engines can play defensively or go on Lung busting runs into the opposition box

Gazza spent plenty of time defending

Generally as a CDM, but there are plenty of tactical innovations going on in the game with players taking up different positions depending on specific situations.

It's also what Bulut does according to a few Turkish journalists. Hmmm.....

Some of his best performances for Wales have come as a midfielder. He looked a world beater on his debut, moving to Chelsea is the worst thing he could have done

Think he suits best in a 4141 formation.
He can push forward to support the midfield and fill the space allowing the wingers to attack, or when defending either hold his position in front or drop into the back line.

That's my thinking too and it suits his versatility. I've also noticed that he has become quite good at playing through a high press during his time in Italy.

His defending for the 2nd wasn’t great either.

He possess terrific technical and passing ability but he’s a luxury player, which is not a great trait when you’re a defender / defensive midfielder.

3 relegations in 3 years at just 22 is not great to have on your CV.
