Of course anything that helps topple Putin is welcome.
But Prigozhin is a thug.. admitted interfering in elections with warrants out for his arrest.
Getting rid of Putin is good, but Prigozhin is not a guarantee of a more democratic and free Russia.
Its interesting to see right wingers fighting about which right wing nut job they want to back and left wing nut jobs soiling themselves at the thought of backing Prigozhin to get rid of Putin.
Maybe its time to spring Alexei Navalny... Probably the only person capable of leading Russia into a new era.
Putin v head of a mercenary group. Not sure it's particularly a good thing for Russia
Hard not to see all of this as very significant.
What's interesting now is the reaction of the Russian people if/when they head north through various towns towards Moscow.
Let's hope this doesn't turn into a Russian civil war now
I can't see Progozhin coming out of this alive and Putin will be considerably weakened.
One possible downside is that if Putin feels sufficiently threatened is there a chance he could launch battlefield nukes (or even worse) in a last ditch survival bid or to go out in glory?
Also, strong rumours that Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko has fled the country.
Moreover the Ukraine army will be loving this, surely without Wagner backing the Russians up on the front line they might well crumble and flee back to Russia?
I think the chances of this actually toppling Putin are pretty low, but it's got to be nothing but great news for Ukraine as Wagner was doing much of the heavy fighting there and also they are causing chaos in Russia's supply lines in the south west of the country. If it goes on for more than a day or two you'd have to think there's a chance the Ukranians can make it right to the coast and split the Russians in two... if that happens all bets are off as to what that means for Putin's war.
If things are serious enough and go long enough you'd imagine Russia even has to pull troops out of Ukraine to help back home, which could be curtains for them.
Someone on Twitter has pointed out that Wagner seem to have taken more of Russia in 12 hours, than they've managed to take of Ukraine in 16 months. Did make me chuckle
Apparently Kadyrov and his Chechen Brigade has reached Rostov.
