The Lincoln Lawyer is good. It's no Suits, but what is?
I am currently watching Detectorists - only 3 seasons but really enjoying
Watching Escape at Dannemora at the moment. 7 part series based on a true prison escape story in New York state a few years ago. Really good, highly recommended. Patricia Arquette is brilliant in it. Directed by Ben Stiller.
Enjoying Manifest at the moment
Finished watching ‘The Long Shadow’ last night. The Yorkshire Ripper case but as well as highlighting the police’s stubbornness and ineptitude, it told the story from the victim’s side. Sutcliffe didn't figure until quite late in the series. Peggy Lee’s version of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ played over the events concerning his last victim, a young student, was particularly moving.
I binged it the last few days on this thread’s recommendation.
It’s very bleak and very riveting.
I remember this time as a child and being scared stiff of my Mam and Nanna being dropped off up the Ringland Club in Newport.
I think that they did a good job in recreating that era.
The early cameo of Sutcliffe at the pub/disco is chilling.
The quiet damnation of the West Yorkshire force in its failings is powerful.
Ultimately though, those poor lasses and the families of those that perished or survived.
“Just Prostitutes”
“Can’t be believed”
“Brought it on themselves”
It’s a compelling watch.
The reckoning about your favourite pervert jimmy saville
I've only seen the first two episodes but I agree it's superbly done. Toby Jones is such a good actor. As well as pointing out the appalling attitude towards sex workers within the police force - and other parts of society - it does a great job of humanising the girls. The first three all had different reasons for getting into it but they all boiled down to desperation.
The Americans on Channel 4.
Spedger
Just watched episode 1 of The Reckoning (BBC Drama/Documentary about Savile, played by Steve Coogan).
Coogan has nailed Savile down to a tee.
It’s absolutely harrowing and very uncomfortable viewing.
