I wonder if Boscombe residents had their noses put out of joint when their club became AFC Bournemouth? Rushden & Diamonds were an amalgamation of Rushden FC & Irthlingborough Diamonds I believe. Walton & Hersham have been on the non league circuit for a while, any more?

Port vale is unique because the place 'Port Vale' doesn't actually exist. Every other team in the EFL and Prem has a name to associate it with a place.
with regards to Rangers and Celtic the names are both predicated by'Glasgow,
Man United, Man City.
No place called Man on the map, apart from that Isle of Mann which is spelt differently
