Re: Tata Steel: Thousands of Port Talbot steel workers at risk

Disaster for the folk directly affected and for the local economy. Short sighted plan really. How long is it going to take to build the electric arc smelter and will there be enough green energy to run it? No more virgin steel to be made there. Meanwhile UK will import virgin steel from places such as China who don't give a hoot about burning coal to fuel their blast furnaces.

Uk government should just take it over and keep some of the jobs at least…..lots of businesses rely on that place being open for their own existence….

Apparently, once British Steel's Scunthorpe plant also closes its blast furnaces, UK will be the only G20 country not able to make steel from raw materials

It’s estimated knock on effect to the local economy: 12,000 jobs lost and £3.2 billion.

It's going to devastate Port Talbot, and to a certain extent, Bridgend as well. A very short-sighted decision - if they planned to close it, then work on a replacement should have started a long time ago. Wales is turning into a job wasteland.

                Tragic but not a surprise.

I'm hoping it's just TATA angling for more money off the Gov.

Couple that with electricity, gas and most of our water in foreign hands, half of our national institutions [post office deliveries etc] owned by multi-nationals, it's difficult to argue against the view that the UK is built on banking, insurance and property..

The Tories don’t give a flying fig about Wales or any other area with Labour voters. They’re only interested in the “money men” Trouble is Labour is just as bad, because they’re incompetent of leading the Country.

This is the the worst thing to happen to Wales since we left the EU.
