Great answer. It would have been interesting to see where may have ended up this season with a half competent centre forward on the books. Imagine a Bothroyd or Chris Pike playing centre forward. Etete showed glimpses of potential but Meite, Ugbo and Diedhiou ... well ...
Chris Pike was a good Division 4 striker. He ended up playing for Barry. That's what you want?
Meite had a few moments this season where he gave a clue as to why he was a successful Championship striker with Reading before his serious injury, but most of the time, he’s been an argument against the line that we had the sixth largest wage bill in the division - if we really were, we wouldn’t be signing players like him.

Thing that isn't being considered is that meite has had a horrendous injury. He might not be able to extend himself anymore. Muscle tears and all that. Bale had the same problem for the last 3 years of his career, Michael Owen as well. Players who rely on explosive, powerful acceleration can get serious problems and if affects their mobility. He isn't the player he was at reading, and I reckon that he's compensating for those Injuries. In fact, he's probably only got a couple more years in him at a decent level.

True. But some people were being wooed by some of his career statistics. Some people believe “data tells us everything”. Two things I often try to point out on here in several threads are:
1. It depends which data
2. Always balance quantitative with qualitative statistics if you want to use data all the time. Or as it is often said with professional statisticians and the risk analysis industry, historical data combined with Bayesian gives a full picture - at least some amber flags, or more up to date data points that can raise eminent counterfactuals.
Some of the people banging on about his 1 in 3 ratio at Reading as confirmation of his greatness ignored two amber /!red flags that Ciry’s recruitment should have identified:
1. His recent big injury at Reading. Unless you are a Man City or Liverpool player or at another elite club, the factors dictating a good recovery are speed of doagnosis, speed of treatment, grade of injury, injury history, quality of re-hab, and exiatence of kinesiophobia. Something in thise six factors meant Meite had not returned to his former force.
2. Allied to the above, pointed out when we signed him, that I had seen three recent games when visiting a friend at Reafing. Meite was anonymous and was not showing the worlk rate expected, so the eyeball tests suggested something had changed in him and the old data no longer applied, confirming point 1.
Now I am a football fan and no club paid me. if an average Joe that can sse that, why can’ the club? I made this a slam dunk call from the moment we signed him that he would fail here. So I will say it again - City need to take a very hard look at their recruitment methods and data analysis on player and coach recruitment, because this was a big error that was an unforced error.
