I didn't see that one coming. She always seemed on the Tory right to me.

I believe that any politician, national or local, who defects to another party should resign their seat and face re-election.

She’s standing down next election. I’m not sure what to think of this. I guess Starmer thought it was too good a story to reject but there’s no way I would’ve let her in. You have to draw a line with some people. Does neither party’s reputation any good.

Isn't (wasn't) she on the right side of the Tories?
Bit of an odd one really. I'd have thought Reform or standing as an independent would have been a more suitable move.

    More or less, yeah.

Although the whole left/right is obviously over simplistic, generally speaking she would have been way down anyone's list.

Lots in Labour a bit miffed it seems.

Any of the Labour left not happy may be interested to know there is now a vacancy in the Workers Party of Britain that Monty Panesar has now left behind.

Honestly, what a mad world we live in 🤣

As you may know, I'm neither a fan of the left nor right regarding domestic politics - but how seriuosly can anyone take an M.P. who changes parties when the ballon is going up as far as the Conservatives are concerned? I don't think it particularly flatters the Labour party either. What would her local constituents actually be voting for?

This is another shameful decision by Starmer. Pathetic. Elphicke is a right wing Tory. Meanwhile genuine lifelong Labour members are suspended or blocked from standing in elections despite support from their local parties and public.

That’s politics. At that level it never has been. Dirty game. Waiting for a national leader to be pure on principles is like knocking the front door of Iran’s Ayatollah Khameini and waiting for him to give you a fresh copy of Gideon’s Bible

Re: Another Tory MP defects to Labour.

I think these MP's over due the Charlie :

Elphicke right wing quotes over the years :

Said “same old Labour” is planning on “grabbing more in taxes from the pockets of millions of hardworking British people.“
Said Labour’s “latest relaunch completely ignored the small boats crisis.“
Rated Starmer’s PMQs performance as “confused and muddled“, adding that Labour would “take our country backwards on Brexit and break up the United Kingdom.“
Wrote an op-ed for the Express titled: “Don’t trust Labour on immigration they really want open borders“.
Slammed Labour as a party “not serious about stopping small boats, tackling criminality, protecting people from the smuggling gangs or saving lives in the Channel.“
Accused “unpatriotic” Labour of “talking Britain down” for attacking the Tories’ economic record.
Said that “Labour back fewer and weaker border controls when it comes to illegal arrivals on our shores.“
Attacked Labour for planning to force taxpayers to “pay asylum seekers nearly £20,000 a year“.
Called Labour “disgraceful and inexcusable” for trying to pause legislation to protect veterans from prosecution
Alleged that her new boss Keir Starmer misled the house for claiming that Boris accused the BBC of not being harsh enough on Putin.
Savaged Sadiq Khan’s “expensive car tax” on struggling residents.
Celebrated Labour voters switching sides in 2019.
Attacked Labour for achieving 100 times fewer council homes than the Tories.
Personally messaging Tom Hunt MP in 2022 that his article bashing Starmer’s time leading CPS and his “failure to prosecute Jimmy Savile” was “very well put”.

Labour colleagues… must be well impressed this could backfire on desperate Sir Kier Tory right or is it left or somewhere in the middle ,oh hang on lets support Jezzie leadership

I think it's pretty funny. For years I've been saying there is no major policy or morality differences between the parties and this only helps to prove it.

It is funny. The major thing Starmer's Labour Party has going for them that they're not the Tories. Not even Labour supporters appear enthused about them. Now it turns out they actually are the Tories after all 😂

I think this and gun control are the only thing I agree you with you on.

We have one party in control of the UK, every 5 years we get to vote on its name.
