The Tory media hounded him like no politician has ever been hounded before or since. Corbyn winning an election, regardless of anyone's opinion of him, would have been disastrous for the establishment and billionnaires that run our country. They wanted him gone.

Ever since that I've wondered how much democracy we actually have in the UK. For all the debates, different parties and opinions, I wonder how much the public is "steered" towards the party or leader those in far loftier positions than we'll ever know want us to vote for. That might be cynical. I also wonder how much that influence got rid of Liz Truss and her very right wing chums when they were in power for such a short space of time.

Apparently Yes Minister was far closer to the mark than we think. There it showed that politicians had little real power and that deals and talks about all matter of things were discussed and decided behind closed doors, then it was a case of getting politicians to do those things, usually easily.
There is a point you make in here around Truss and Sunak, and how they got there, how they were chosen, and the Truss budget. Beyond the policy details of the budget on budget day, you would not believe what else was going on that day behind the scenes in London.

The press didn’t report it and I cannot find any mention of it online anywhere. You are looking in the right direction, but the truth lies in another area of detail where you might not expect it to be.

However, I spent about 10 minutes listening to her interview Keir Starmer and she became easily the most irritating interviewer I've ever heard, constantly goading her prey towards answers she wanted and wasn't going to get, while not listening to a word said by Starmer most of the time, twisted things he said when he was given the rare opportunity and talked over him 90% of the time. At one point she said she had to move on from something as time was short, yet also said she would continue asking the same question until she got the answer she wanted.

This isn't about Starmer at all, she'd get on my nerves regardless of who she was interviewing if she's like that all the time. It was as if she had a set agenda and wasn't budging from it.

On the opposite side I saw Nick Robinson (good to see him back, haven't seen him on TV for years) interview Rhun Ap Iorwerth and, while he probed away with some challenging questions, at least he allowed the person being interviewed the opportunity to speak. Regardless of who is being interviewed, they should be allowed that opportunity to speak without constant interruption (apart from Farage, who needs a bullet).
Gobby so and so that broke covid rules, after moaning at politicians for months for doing the same.

In fairness Corbyn and his friends were easy to pick off in the media, if you're daft they will tear you apart like Corbyn, Johnson, and Truss, they made it far too easy.

That's why Starmer won't answer any questions or have any policies, it's a case of keeping my mouth shut or I'll mess it up, there is no way I can tell them what I think.

The robot question was funny, he answered like a robot

Well what's really amusing is that the Tories are getting a battering

A battering is good sometimes, without it you don't get a change in direction which is needed, 14 years and all the problems of the last five years, Brexit, Covid, Ukraine, the Energy crisis, and worldwide inflation on the back of covid and energy policy because of Russia there hasn't been this many problems in one term since the WW2.

Labour finally gets its chance given to them on a plate, lets watch them feck it all up as usual.

Re: Beth Rigby - Sky News interviews

The most irritating thing about Beth Rigby is the way that she slows down and repeats the link she has been given to pad out any news report.

She sounds and looks as if she is imparting something profound, weighty, significant - when all she is doing is stalling whilst she tries to think of something new or worthwhile to say.... and fails. The anchor gives the story. Rigby repeats it almost word for word (very slowly) and then the anchor repeats it again as a summary and sign off. It turns a 10 second segment of 'news' into a 3 minute padding session. The bane of 24 hours rolling 'news', a lack of content, and 'reporters' (!) who value style over substance.

It used to be the same on Sky Sports when Bryan Swanson was employed to look important and relevant, but was neither. He too could turn a 10 second snippet into 3 minutes of TV coverage by repeating and repeating and speaking veeeeery sloooowly.

It is much better now with Kaveh Solhekol and Melissa Reddy. They are able to think on their feet and add something new.

On Sky News it is Sam Coates who does the same whilst Rigby perpetuates the Swanson school of overblown froth.

I’d agree. Pigby is poor, I think. Ridge is decent but she has that annoying posh London accent. I like posh but posh London is a weird sounding voice. I’d boff her though.

Sunak is just an out of his depth politician but he also never stood a chance with what came before.
The only thing they all excelled at is outstanding arrogance.
