Interesting 2 independent MP's in the Champions League but not a Tory in sight.

Really interesting - and quite surprising?

How is it surprising? A lot of seats changed hands in the election, and there are now far more Labour constituencies than there were before the election. So it makes sense that after that event, more football clubs are sited in Labour constituencies. It would be more surprising if they weren't.

I think those figures say a lot. Football clubs are traditionally urban and Labour has tended to be a party of the inner cities. Although it would be wrong to say that the Conservatives are a rural party, I think it is right to think of them as a party of the suburbs. It should always be the case that a majority of football clubs are based in Labour constituencies, but as clubs move outwards from city centres due to new grounds you might get times when a majority of clubs are in Tory constituencies. Maybe the thing to look out for in the future is if inner city clubs start switching from Labour to Reform or Independent - I’d say that’s more likely to happen than seeing inner city clubs turning Conservative.

Urmmm - am I misunderstanding this?. Yes, of course more clubs are in Labour constituencies. But for NONE to be in Tory ones? Well, it surprised me anyway.

    Absolutely, it's a clean sweep.

Bromley's promotion means there will be 1 Tory seat in the 92 next season

I'm that sad, and so disbelieving that this could be correct that I tried to find one myself . Damn, I missed Bromley!

I like these geographical oddball facts. When I read that I thought of the 2018 Tim Moore book 'Another Fine Mess' where he drove a Model T Ford across the USA but only through counties that votes for Donald Trump in 2016.

There's something about the geography and history of football that I find really interesting. I'm much happier talking about the art deco design of Enfield's club house (Bob's post last week) than the relative merits of 4-4-2 and 4-2-4.

I dare say there is also not a professional rugby union or rugby league team too? County Cricket even?

You might be right!. The southern ones - Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire are the ones I know, and I think the theory may hold for those. Lords though? Not sure.
