Were you watching CCFC in those days ? It really wasn't up to much

Jimmy Andrews refused to take toshack on in any role as he said he wasn't qualified

Toshack said look at what I have won as a player

Toshack says cobblers then and goes to Swansea

Who play brilliant football and soar up the leagues

Everyone who is old enough has memories of the “Villars match” in 73/74 when we faced Palace in our last game knowing one of the two teams would be relegated, but the match which ended 76/77 was exactly the same, yet does not seem as well remembered. Carlisle were the opponents and. Like Palace three years earlier took the leaf (with a great goal as I remember). We were going down at that stage, but Alan Campbell (who later signed for Carlisle) equalised a minute later and we ended up safe although my memory is that Carlisle made it a lot more difficult for us in the closing minutes before their relegation was confirmed- there was a huge scramble in our penalty area in the final minute which ended up in a punch up involving most of the players from both sides.

Because Toshack brought some "fading" Liverpool players with him.
They went down the leagues as quickly as they went up.

We had been waiting since 1962 for a go at the big boys

Toshack could have done it for us but was rejected by CCFC

    It's in the history books

I wasn't born for most of his time with us.

    Great clip.
Yes, that was how I remember Paul Went too (overweight). But as you say, he doesn't look in bad shape in that video, his legs look well-toned in fact.

A large number of Everton supporters arrived by 'football special'. At the end of the game, there was a football special parked over the Ninian bridge. I doubt if there were any windows left in at least two carriages. Also, Everton fans making their way up the walkway to the halt were easy targets.

I was in the middle of the Grange End that afternoon.

Well your memory is entirely yours

But he wasn't tackled by a number of defenders and goalkeeper as can be seen by the video

There are a number of clips online of his remarkable close control of the ball on shockingly bad pitches.

    Bob bank me.

I agree and of course, we all agree Duncan Mckenzie was magic.

This is how I remember that era. We were as likely to win by a hat full as we were to lose by the same number. Andrews in particular would choose teams without nearly any central midfielders. Sayer, Giles, Reece, then Grapes would often be 3 of the 4 midfielders with someone like Livermore or Campbell (who were no diggers) trying to hold it together.

And lest we forget the best and most flamboyant City kit ever
