Plenty of good chip shops in Ely . Fryers club large cod and large bag of chips £10.95 it will feed 3 people and it's the dogs cahooners.
When I was a lad there was a chippy called Stratos, quite often went in and ask him if there was any spare scratchings, he'd scoop up the batter that fell off the fish and put it on a piece of newspaper. No charge

A Fish Called Rhondda
Sad to say that Good Pie Mr Chips no longer exists - like A Fisn called Rhondda in Treorchy (there’s still one in Pentre), it has had a change of name to something much more bland. When I first moved up here, I had Fish and Chips from Good Pie Mr Chips on my first night in my new house and I wasn’t long n getting some from a Fish called Rhondda as well, but, in truth, both chippies were nothing special - there’s at least two up here that I think are a lot better than them.
Shipley is not between Bradford and Leeds. It's NNW of Bradford. Leeds is east of Bradford. Pudsey, Farsley, Rodley and Calverley are the places between Bradford and Leeds.
It's like saying Pontypridd is between Cardiff and Newport.
My brother lives in Shipley and has done for 25 years. It's on the up thankfully after years of decline.
I think you are splitting hairs there
Bradford and Leeds literally merge into each other
There is 10 miles of countryside between pontypridd , Cardiff and Newport
West Yorkshire and in particular the Leeds Bradford metropolitan area is one huge blob and when I lived in Shipley people would either go into Bradford for sports, entertainment and shopping
It's a town between the two big urban centres
If you were saying Otley or Ilkley are similar to ponty then I would agree with you
Nice canal in Shipley, great fishing
Just bought fish and chips for the first time in ages, mainly because they are cash only and I've never got any.
£9.90 for a large fish and chips. It's not too long back, probably pre covid that the same place charged either 5 or £6.50 so that is some mega jump up in price.
