Just got back from the game (20 quid for an adult ticket FFS), some observations;
First half was pretty uninspiring, looked a lot like Saturday to be honest, lots of backwards and sideways passing, not many forward runs. Conte was excellent and Robertson looked lively but other than that it was lifeless. Bagan and Rinamhota were particularly bad with their inability to spot a forward.
Second half though... what a change. Colwill had been playing out wide in the first half. I dont know why. He never ever ever gets involved out wide. Second half he played up the middle and absolutely ran the show. Tanner was great when he came on (yeah him), likewise Keiron Evans and Michael Reindorf. Eli King and had a mich better 2nd half as well. The football was no possession based but just so much more direct, lots of off the ball movement and the front 4 were all prepared to take on their man. We blew Rovers away. The one concern was that we should have scored more.
I’d try Rambo deeper with Robertson, Colwill 10 and Reindorf up front.
In the end, I enjoyed the game because, by Cardiff home standards, it had a fair bit going for it, but that really does show how low a bar it is we’re talking about. The question is will Bulut factor this game into his selections for the coming Championship games? Based on last year, he won’t- we played really well in winning at Birmingham in the League Cup last season, but it may as well never have happened when it came to selection in league games.
I thought the front 4 for the last 30 showed exactly how we need to play in all fixtures.
The front 3 all did very well when coming on. The Keiron Evans situation is a mystery. You can see the talent that led them to give him a new contract (the same with Tom Davies) but he is so far down the pecking order he is never going to play.
I thought Conte was disappointing as a winger, if he has a 1st team future, surely it is as a right back. Although Kpakio looks better than him there.
I thought Bagan did well, King looked only half fit (but you can see what he brings) and Giles was a bit weak defensively.
Ruben, as we all ready know, is different gravey and we should be building a team around him.

Highlights:
Highlights 2 (in case of ads):
Bulut made three substitutions on the hour mark. One of those was bringing on the lively Reindorf for the totally ineffective Kanga. The switches also meant that Colwill changed positions. McGuiness scored from set-piece on 68 minutes and following that goal the game opened up and Rovers tired noticeably. Most of the highlights feature action from that point onwards.
Before that (ie: during the majority of the contest), City had mustered just one weak shot on target and the game had been a poor spectacle. I haven't read all of this thread, but if the comments prior to 68 minutes are less than complimentary then it's no surprise, as it wasn't good viewing.
