    Matchday pubs CCS

    Hi all,

I don't usually go to any pubs pre-match but have some family visiting from Australia at the moment and would like to take them to a pub pre-match for a drink which is within walking distance and was looking for any recommendations?

    Cheers!

Canton Cross, The Canton (Llandaff Rd), Ivor Davies and The Admiral Napier. Lots of activity on a match day around that area. The Queen’s Vaults, I s’pose, in town due to it’s proximity to the ‘football bus’.

Does the Sandmartin still insist on sit-down meals on match days?
Is it only for CCFC games, or Football?
I recall it was rammed for the egg chasers.

I think they've relaxed that rule

The Canton Hotel, Llandaff Road, small, friendly, get there early for a seat (12.30ish) lagers £3.80p/£4.80p, ciders £3.90p/£4.60p. Plus you get to drink out of a glass

The Canton Cross, similar to above, but ales about 30 to 50p dearer, all served in plastic

Napier, get there before Noon, and you can pre-book your drinks at about 80p to £1.20p cheaper, all served in plastic

Ivor Davies, Wetherspoons, nuff said, plastic

    Corp, dear

    Landsdown , dear

Butchers, can’t remember the last time it was open

Real ale places on Llandaff road, not my cup of tea

Liberal Club, cold and lacks atmosphere, ok for a wake

Chapter Arts, those who go there say it’s wonderful, never been, cannot comment

Just go to the ground. Excellent quality beers and lagers at very reasonable prices.

Was told a few seasons ago by a bouncer in there that ‘vertical drinking’ wasn’t allowed. F*cking daft, it should be a money spinner on a match day and going with the brewery’s bird naming theme should obviously had been called The Bluebird.

The cross hasn't used plastic glasses for a while.

You cannot have a plastic glass, it is either a glass or a plastic receptacle

Crafty Devil only has draft beer, no real ale. It's good beer but more expensive than the pubs already mentioned.
Slizza (formerly St Canna's) and Chapter both havevreal ale as well as draft, but again, more expensive than the pubs.
If you want food Chapter and Slizza are good.

Unless it’s in a bottle, Real ale is draught. Draught is beer served from a cask or a keg. You’re confusing draught with craft.

The Romilly is a good place to have a pre-match drink, whether it be before a Cardiff or Wales game. It doesn't take long to get served and the surroundings are pleasant and civilised.

I've not been there for Weeks.
