What team did Wales play at home on Friday 6th September 2024?
    Family fortunes.

We dropped off in the second half but overall an encouraging performance. We do lack a cutting edge though.

We were worse playing ten men than we were playing eleven, but an enjoyable game nonetheless - great to see a home team at Cardiff City Stadium playing front foot, intelligent and quick football.

    Is our ground cursed ?
    Home teams won’t score

They pushed us out to the flanks….which we accepted…. The crossing was wayward and when it was flashed across the 6 yard box there wasn't anyone in there.

They need to work out a way to go through the middle a bit more.

That said, Turkey totally parked the bus, especially after the red.

Yep and considering we had an extra player we didn't stretch them. Turkey also successfully slowed the game down.
Think we need to be a little more pragmatic at playing out from the back too.
However the passing and tempo were terrific in the first half. So on balance a good start for Bellamy.

Also good to see Johnson staying on the pitch when Moore came on. Bellamy is definitely more attack minded than Page.

The first game I've enjoyed at CCS for a very long time.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned some of Danny Ward's dodgy playing out from the back.

See my comments above Richard. He played short too often and it was nearly costly.

It wasn't so much playing it short, it was playing it to a Wales player who had a Turkey player on him and no where to go. Short would have been ok if his teammate had time and space.
But, he got away with it so I can't complain too much.

Bulut would have wet his pants at Wales swashbuckling attacking style, but would have absolute adored and be licking his lips at the way we played the ball dangerously around at the back in a Cardiff City style

The best we have played in years.
It reminded me of a few games in to Gary Speed’s reign.

    Plenty of positives!

Breath of fresh air to see positive play most of the players no more than a few seconds on the ball mostly looking up and playing forward, lack of an out an out goalscorer is a worry as was the play down the right side with Roberts not so positive and Johnson poor delivery. all in all very encouraging

This is what I was inferring. He was playing it short to marked players in or around the edge of the penalty when he should have gone long.

Yes, and it should only get better. It was the first game of the new regime against a team ranked 4 places above Wales, who reached the quarter finals of the last Euros.

It's a just a shame that Sorba Thomas was having a much better game than Johnson though. I'm still not sure he's ever impressed me much in a Welsh shirt.

Great performance and a style that should suit this squad going forward. Turkey were dreadful though and could have punished some mistakes at the back so I think we are going to have to accept that as a tradeoff for playing quicker football.

Ramsey should have buried that header

Difficult conditions but crossing into box was poor

    Thomas had a good go

Enjoyed that. It was a very encouraging performance. Whilst Danny Ward playing it short had its perilous moments, I think it gave us alot more possession than if he'd just booted the ball upfield. We were never going to win many 50/50 headers around halfway, so the tactic worked. Nice to see Sorba Thomas do well and hope he gets another chance when Dan James returns. Ramsey did well too even though I still think he'd be more effective for Cardiff in a deeper role.

I would have taken Johnson off , he was a bit flat footed tonight I thought 🤔

Re: WALES v TURKEY. Match thread

Just got back and I have this weird feeling.....I actually enjoyed the football, the match and the evening out. Will go again.

...just a couple of quick observations.

Definitely played better before the red. Thomas was really good but why oh why not switch play and bring Johnson more into the game. He's class. Crazy football played out from the back. Would have taken a point but feel we should have won. It was a really good Wales performance and I'm sure Bellamy is glad to get that out of the way without a loss.

Wasn't impressed with Koumas or the other subs. In fact, we lost all cohesion and front foot football after the subs. Watching Moore warm up was more exciting than watching him on the park. Would have preferred Harris and Colwill on instead of a big lump up front when no decent crosses were ever going to make it to him.

All in all though, I can't remember the last time I got home from CCS feeling like it was worth the effort. Good night of footie.

Johnson caused all kinds of problems in the first half and was being fouled constantly. They didn't know how to deal with him. He's Wales best player and is totally under appreciated and has been badly used under Page. Bellamy is the right manager for him.

Yes he was but it was good to see Bellamy want to play with two strikers.
