So, you think that at, what is it, the twelfth time of asking, they are going to be professional and thorough in their selection of a new manager? What’s so different about this time?

Wonder what other business you’d have the chairman openly saying in a meeting with stakeholders that he’s recommended something again and again to the owner but he doesn’t want to know.

Nothing but respect for the trust and the work they do and this isn’t a pop at them or anyone in the meeting but this basically boils down to “we think you are doing a shit job” “well we don’t think we are, what about a newsletter”. They must think we are absolute mugs.

What in particular are you referring to?

Lets see this as a positive, there is enough negativity about as there is
Getting advice from people with a football background is a good thing on the face of it yes, but my point was that they could say "A, B and C" are all good managers, but it still relies on Tan/Dalman/Choo to decide which is the best fit, and because we don't have an identity, how do they choose?
Or maybe the consultants are going to come up with a football philosophy for Cardiff City too. That might not be a bad thing, depending on who they are.

Fingers crossed I think Tan may finally be thinking he needs to be more professional with Managerial appointments, God knows why it took him so long but hopefully we won't see a cheap gamble like Hudson, Morison or Harris.

Maybe someone finally got through to him, or maybe he's just fed up of losing money, either way lets hope the consultants are good and he listens and learns.

Not sure I have remembered this right, but wasn’t the last time the club brought in an ex manager as a consultant (although I think he was wrongly titled Director if Football?) when Glenn Roeder was advising Tan and the Board after Ole?

If I have got the chronology correct the answer then was Russell Slade.

I think most know enough about these 3 chancers to realise the “plan” is probably anything but.

I'm confused as to why it's a problem to debate and critique, especially when we're bottom of the league and we're the paying punters. I don't see it as self-deprecation. It's just that one person's plan is another person's knee-jerk. The notion that we've got a strategic plan and we'll get one by hiring consultants in October isn't having a pop at the club. It's also not negative. It's healthy. If something doesn't make sense from a logistical point of view then it needs calling out.

The clincher in this argument is that Dalman nor anyone else at the club clearly envisaged us being the proud achievers of 1 goal, 1 point and -12 GD(?). This is a crisis situation. The planning comes next season. The priority is to stay in The Championship. I fully support The Trust and the work they do but I don't trust Dalman nor do I believe much of what he says. I have little respect for any of the current board and have no confidence in their decision-making.

No consultant is going to do anything at this stage other than to look at creating a long-term strategy that benefits....the consultants. The owner is the person who should know what we want. What questions do we even start asking consultants? How do we guarantee survival in the league this season?

They won't be able to answer that. They'll be employed to look at worst case scenarios and charge several hundred Łs/day to do that. These aren't just football questions they're financial ones and this scenario will be instantly recognisable to anyone who's worked 'with' consultants/management strategic planning in any corporate environment. Cardiff City FC is a private business. We can support the team but the club is fair game for criticism.

They're just now on the payroll along with the lawyers. The priority is to get the Sala money back. That's been the clear the plan for years and is still the only clear plan we have.

City used Glenn Roeder in the past, obviously it isn't him now.

Former Cardiff City captain Jason Perry believes any prospective new manager must be “desperate” to consider taking charge of the Bluebirds.

    Lee Tomlin vehemently disagrees

Allegedly Slade is one of the former managers assisting Tan in the search

They’ve managed it twice before. God knows how !

My ex-boss once told me that the definition of a consultant is “someone who borrows your watch to tell you what time it is and charges you a fortune to do it”

Slade whilst obviously a shit manager, probably isn’t as thick when it comes to other parts of the game.

Think he’s made a fortune off player data and analysis so may actually be useful in terms of manager selection.

This could be bollocks but I don’t think it’s a dreadful consultation

Some consultants can be incredibly astute if they listen to those with experience and expertise in an organisation in the first place and perhaps tweak things accordingly, having had a wider experience in certain areas themselves. Unfortunately, at City there is little expertise available and there is always the risk of employing consultants who make decisions on insufficient information, see things far too simplistically and who have little interest in the consequence of their actions. Unfortunately......'I've 'been there'.

Whomever eventually gets appointed will immediately know that his new boss wasn't the one who actually employed him. The consultants or committee did.
Right from the off, they'll have to start building that relationship knowing what has gone before. The consultants have done their job in recommending someone (or a few) and buggered off with their fees. At least if the club had its own Director of Football, they would remaining position and remain somewhat accountable. You won't get that from a third party.

My limited experience tells me your ex boss was correct most of the time - went on plenty of “away days” in work to be told what we knew already. However, in this instance they would be talking to people who have proved over a long period that they don’t get running a medium to big sized football club in the 21sr century.

I’d be fairly happy if Slade was one of the former managers involved apart from a feeling I have that, based on his time in the job, he would pay little or no attention to youth development when assessing any potential new manager.

If the position of director of football was ever created here, would Slade be a decent candidate? Seems to be involved in the football scene, been at the club before and, looking back, did ok in the usual chaotic circumstances.

Would make some sense if Tan’s reluctance stems from the fact he feels he wouldn’t be able to trust someone who came from “outside” in the role - Slade could hardly be accused of wasting Tans money when he was manager because he was given little of it to spend - signing Zohore while he was here must mean that he operated at a profit in the transfer market.

People have mentioned Warnock and Slade as the former managers advising on recruiting the new manager, but it says "two very experienced former and unnamed football managers. " It doesn't say former City managers.
