It does seem to be a theme - a dogma that experienced players who've been underperforming week in week out are a better option than promising youngsters.

While taking the point that none of our recent managers have been particularly youngster friendly, I think someone like Steve Morison, and maybe one or two others, would have put Reindorf on the bench more. To be fair to Riza, other managers have had more options to pick from when it comes to the striking positions, but his faith in a player who has had no positive impact at all (Kanga) and another who has had very little positive impact (Meite) is mystifying. Ashford appears to be paying for a poor subs showing at Luton, despite him doing well when he had come against Norwich a few days later, but was he any worse that night than Meite and Kanga have been as a matter of course in recent months?

Its annoying that we still refer to them as young players. Theres a 17 year old who scored for Arsenal recently, ok he may be outstanding but they have plenty of other older squad members who are outstanding yet he still got game time. I can see why there is sometimes reluctance to add an untried player but involving one, given the amount of subs nowadays, isnt too much too expect. 3 + 4 up against Plymouth the other week, perfect opportunity to shot someone like Reindorf on.

Great to see a podcast like this about the age group teams - I don’t agree with the way they talk about loans, but it’s still a great discussion.

Welsh League Cup semi-final later today for our under-21s at Aberystwyth, 2.30 kick off. The other semi is between Barry and TNS on Sunday evening.

Its not going to be streamed Im sure, but Ive reached the stage where Id watch it over the first team game if it was.

Under 18s also in action at Bournemouth today, kick off 12.00.

It also allows those underperforming older player a comfort zone knowing they aren't going to be out of the squad any time soon.

So will Reindorf be with the U21’s or first team today?

No Reindorf or Ashford in the under 21s. Dylan Lawlor starts for the first time in a while.

Doesn't look like Ashford's in the first team squad either

    A strange case

City under 21s back in League action this afternoon when they face Bournemouth at Leckwith, kick off 2 o clock.

Presumably, the game will be streamed as usual.

    0-0 half time

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

City the better team, but not much in the way of an end product - Ashford’s probably had the best chance, but put it wide.

Just seen the highlights of the game at Aberystwyth on the club website - another dodgy handball penalty award against City, but this time I think it was the right decision.

A good 0-0 between two of the teams at the top of the table. Bournemouth had their chances, but I thought City had the better ones and they really should have been able to find a finish for one of them.

He's just lacking that sharpness he had last season. Good build up play and getting in good positions but he'd have buried at least one of his chances today last year. Hopefully he can get that back. Maybe he gets one and the confidence comes back.
