Thread: Anyone here sell on EBay?

    Anyone here sell on EBay?

I’ve got a pile of stuff to sell on EBay but no idea how the postage/packaging works.

Anyone able to enlighten me on how to add/include the costs, how to judge the costs etc.

    Thanks in advance.

I used to but it's gone to the dogs. There are lot's of unscrupulous people about who know how to game the system, and eBay always sides with the buyer.

To answer you question you can include postage or add it on when you make your listings. Shipping costs are available on the Royal Mail website.

I find it easier to use Facebook's Marketplace. It's limited in that sales are to people in the locality but it circumvents the postal aspect.

This…used to use eBay but after they’ve taken their fees, plus postage and the general hassle it’s not really doing it anymore.

If I understand it correctly eBay no longer charge fees for private sales (except for cars). I agree the postage thing is a right hassle and I have been out of pocket on more than one occasion.

The hassle comes with having to know the exact dimensions and weight of the final package and then going on a comparison site to compare carriage charges. Once you have committed and told the buyer the cost, there is no going back in the event of some oversight on your part, so be very careful!

I’ve seen lots of scams on market place recently (Nigerian based , or similar, in the main, trying to get bank details). Prompted my decision to change away from market place.

The hassle for me was when a buyer opened a spurious dispute and they knew how to play the system.

I didn’t know that as not sold on it for a year or so…..no more eBay fees? How do they make money? Annoying when you sell something they take the money then pay you a few days later. That killed it for me

Yes, sold some Lego once with quite valuable mini figures, buyer said there were two missing when he got it which was a complete lie. EBay believed him and refunded him, and key just kept them. Last time I sold Lego on ebay

There’s a right dodgy one say your selling an iPhone, person says they want it, agree the fee ( they usually agree to good price) agree to PayPal etc…then you get a fake PayPal message saying you’ve received the funds but they won’t be released to you until you’ve posted or something….happened to me first about the fifth time on fb marketplace few weeks ago. W anchors they are, disappeared so fast when I told them I knew the scam.

They still charge fees for businesses that sell on eBay. Presumably that's where they make most of their money.

There are scams but if you do a bit of due diligence and just take cash on your doorstep there shouldn't be a problem.
Anyone interested in a pouffé but who is based in Lagos is best given a swerve.
