Reading between the lines I feel strong support for this appointment

If he's mates with Riza and has only worked in youth football, the chances are it isn't a great one...

Just read, Shaw was the player fouled
by Cantona. That led to Eric's sending off and hence to karate kit.

So it looks like Riza's here til at least the end of the season however the next few games pan out. Not sure I think this is wise - the desperate state the team is in all options should remain on the table..

It will be interesting to see how much Phelan does improve them, he's coached top-level and should help Rooney them improve.

Sometimes you just need someone you know and trust to help you out, as another pair of eyes and someone to discuss changes with.

I think the appointment of Phelan at Plymouth might get them out of trouble as he'll improve their defence.

He's obviously friends with riza but I can't say I'm thrilled Watford youth coaching set up is now our first team set up.
He's a coach. How can you say with any confidence whether or not this is a poor appointment? He may very well turn out to be, but give him a chance first.

I wonder how much influence Shaw had in today's result?

None, unless he's picking the side and formation.

Are you saying that there's no likelihood of the new assistant coach having been in the ear of Riza and putting forward suggestions that might benefit the way we play?

In four working days, i would say that it's unlikely. Obviously i can't be certain though. Shaw wouldn't even know all of the players names yet.

    So couldn't be ruled out.
I don't think he needs to know their names at this stage.
