Thread: WASPI women could finally receive compensation

Re: WASPI women could finally receive compensation

A crisis entirely of their own making. Firstly, I don't personally think these Waspi women have a leg to stand on. It's an awful campaign, based on what is essentially a lie that 'they didn't know about the changes'.

Which leads to the question, why on earth were Labour MP's so desperate to 'back' their campaign. Playing petty politics in opposition, only to then pull the rug from under the campaigners feet when they were actually in power .

Even now, that weasel Starmer can't just come clean. Instead of just saying no, he's almost trying to make out that he'd be paying if the economy was stronger.

When someone like Kemi Badenoch can attack you for dishonesty and playing politics then you really are in the gutter.

Thats a good post, I don't think they should get it, but Labour pretended to care and say it was wrong, now they are in power they couldn't give two sh!ts.

The simple answer is because it's easy to stand by a banner.

Labour in 2017 promised some kind of compo for waspi, labour in 2019 promised an absurdly large amount of compo for waspi and was ridiculed for it by the press. Labour in 2024 had no mention of waspi in the manifesto and when pressed reeves said they wouldn't be doing it because it isn't costed.

That is the evolution of their policy stance and it looks pretty clear to me. If they want to say that they would pay it if they had the money then they can but it seems like terrible comms because they are essentially admitting they are owed it, which most of the people criticising labour for this issues don't believe themselves.

not just the pensioners - it's been proven over many elections in many countries that the voters in general have short memories

I don’t mean to make it all about Starmer, but what on earth was he doing accepting clothing and glasses (basic essentials that many who voted Labour are struggling to pay for now) as a perk of the job? Maybe, Im naive as well, but I’ve spent all of my life expecting better from Labour than this unimpressive shower are providing.
That is all fair enough bob but I just think you should try and judge policies on their merits along the way. I try and tune out of the punch and Judy, gotcha politics that has consumed every discussion/broadcast.

I tried to do that with the Tories as much as I could but I could never really understand what they were trying to do. For example they are a party who simultaneously believe that the UK should be a meritocracy and that inheritance tax should be scrapped, it's hard to take any of it seriously. I can at least see a thread weaving through labour policies, unfortunately a combination of poorly planned implementation and just shitty comms has let the narrative be formed that Labour are trying to 'punish' people.

The test is probably next year when they will need to stop hiding behind the 'we are conducting a review into x' and actually show if they are interested in meaningful change.

No growth in the economy this summer, just from the news of what she was going to do in the budget, businesses won't take any staff on or aim for growth, they have to pay for the pay rises in the public sector instead.

    Tough times ahead for some!

Businesses are deliberately trying not to get more money because they are annoyed at the budget?

They have extra costs due to increased minimum wage, workers' rights, and employer National Insurance hikes, which is affecting their growth potential.
