There are countless examples of countries wanting their preferred nomenclatures to be adopted but without success. There are countless examples of this in the Pacific Ocean where Japan, South Korea and China have similar conflicts.
For my part, I have been present in international meetings where such subjects have been broached on many occasions.

They didn't have to accept the pardons, and instead of shining a spotlight on themselves they could have just said they were innocent and didn't need them.
