You see the sign coming off the M5 saying ‘South Wales’, you think the back is broken. We’ve all done it so many times but this road to Celtic Manor is the longest road in captivity. Not a light anywhere, it’s a f*cking Chris Rea road l!!!!
At least the M50, A40, A449 to Newport, for the vast majority of it, still has a limit of 70mph.
Pedantic f***ers aren’t you
There is s roundabout at the beginning, M4/A449, from the A449, you access the A40, where there are 4 roundabouts , I believe, from here you access the M50, where there is another roundabout, to access the M5
Lots of places for spillages
By going over the New Bridge, there is no slowing down and nice straight lines north
The M50/A40/A449 way can get very foggy at night as well - especially in late Autumn. I remember a number of occasions in the late 80s/early 90s coming back from Devils away games about midnight and finding it difficult to see the turn off at some of the roundabouts.
I travelled up & down that road from Monmouth to Redditch, every work day for 22 years. Dull yes, but it made my career possible.
Welcome to my world. I must admit my route to all home matches is horrible after the clocks change. Given where I live the route is A458...A449...M5...M50 etc. Followed by "is it 20mph here, maybe 30mph..hang on did that sign say 20?" when you get to Cardiff. A journey that gets less appealing as you get older. I've never measured it but someone once posted on here that it's 8 miles longer over the bridge. Nothing worse than going home in the dark/rain and, sometimes, ice. Unlight roads with roundabouts. Whichever way, not much fun. Unless you beat the Jacks!
Sorry, but you’re still wrong. You’re getting the A40 and the A449 mixed up. Your route would be:
M4 -> A449 -> A40 -> M50 -> M5 -> M6 -> A556 -> M56 -> A5103
The A449 becomes the A40 after the Rhaglan junction. So, there are no roundabouts on the A449 other than the one at Celtic Manor where you got on.
