I guess the fans of other teams dont see him flatter to deceive on a regular basis.
Meanwhile most of the squad just deceive I guess.

Its clear as day to me (also not a coach) that he needs to be facing the goal and is far more effective traveling forward into open areas and making their midfield make decisions and break their defensive structures.

It will be interesting to see what he does when played a little deeper and having a genuine centre forward pinning their centre halfs opening up the space that a "10" works in. Robinson isn't a traditional striker, I think he'd be waiting around the D waiting for the cutback if on the feild. He gets in the attacking midfielders space.

I think Rubin is an attacking player without being an attacker

Some of them appear to deceive a significant percentage of the club's fanbase judging by the praise they receive.

The overall standard in the Championship this season is dreadful. Nevertheless, our mob have never been higher than 17th in the table and currently sit in 20th position (yet again).

You'd never believe that if you read the plaudits some of our players are regularly given.

Ashford certainly doesn't get the attention some players have in the past, and with our home developed players we can add an extra 20% on top of that. The reason (in my opinion) is that Ashford is unassuming in his play, economic, takes one touch where other players take three. For me, that's great, i love it, get your work done early and effectively, it shows an intelligence. I do believe that some fans are fooled into thinking that more is better. It isn't.

I'm not sure if Ashford has been called up by bellamy yet. Don't think so?

However will just be a matter of time if bellamy is giving starts to likes of Mark Harris and liam Cullen. He'll certainly feature as seems a player bellamy would like to me.

Colwill though? Bellamy obviously knows him well and isn't at all convinced. Maybe slowing everything down and running round in circles with the ball isn't what bellamy is after?

That's not to say colwill won't improve and kick on but if he does he will have to do something considerably different to what he's doing currently.

And yes we did it- another matchday thread that's turned into the rubin colwill debate thread!

Surely everyone can see that he has superb talent but 8 times out of 10 he holds the ball for too long . There must be a coach out there that can teach him when to release the ball ???

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread

He often holds the ball too long but with such poor options around him it's no suprise.

He's at his best when linking with Tanner.

Bellamy has publicly criticised Colwill twice, critical of his game i mean. There was absolutely nothing said about it on here, which surprised me. Back to Ashford. Yup. i think that Bellamy will call him in to the set up soon. I like Ashford. slow burner of a player, unassuming, Economic, measured and calm, and for the best part his work is clean and intelligent, he's not flash or over elaborate. He's a football managers dream.

You win some you lose some ,Derby has a perfectly legitimate goal scrubbed out for offside

He contributes too. He's got 3 goals and 3 assists since late December. I really like him, too. He's got good feet, works hard, covers his full back, must be a dream to play with.

Clever player without looking clever. If he continues to progress, and there is always an 'If' in my opinion, then clubs will be in for him. That mistake against Pompey was uncharacteristic, and i would put it down to a bit of tiredness, he's covered some ground over the past couple of months, and maybe Riza got it right with him yesterday starting on the bench, although he should have come on 20 minutes earlier.

Hopefully Salech and Alves can help so we don't need to run Ashford and Robinson into the ground. It still blows my mind that people want to drop Robinson. He's scored 8 (EIGHT in teletext speak) more than our next top scorer, which is 3. I'd start Ashford, Robinson and Salech myself. Those 3 score and assist, so play them.

Who was the last player to score 8 or more in a season for us? Kieffer Moore I'm guessing, and probably Callum Paterson before him.

I find it odd as well. I have a theory, although i'm in no way saying that anyone on this board thinks this way, it's just the only thing i can come up with. Robinson isn't one of those players who looks like he's running his arse in to the ground, he certainly works hard, but doesn't give that all out dying for the shirt shit that so many fans of ours seem to like, and when it's not working for him, it's then where i think some of our fans can get on his back a bit. Personally, i like his goals record, and some of the goals he has scored have been difficult. Didn't he have half a sniff yesterday, but fluffed it a bit? and that volley against Pompey that he should have hit across the keeper, although that's a difficult skill for most players, he certainly hasn't really been presented with the chance Salech scored on Saturday, although he's not really a box striker.

The good thing about Salech (so it seems) is that he is more of a box striker and he's physical, that's a new dimension for us. I'm hoping it can sort of click a bit now that we're at the back end of the season, if not, it's going to the wire, if it isn't already.

I would agree with a lot of that. I think he's a very good finisher who can probably score goals at a decent rate even in the Prem, but when he's not doing that then he doesn't offer much else so his overall game is never going to be good enough to start there. He's very hot and cold but strikers who can score and aren't usually aren't playing at this level. If anybody still played 4-4-2 think he could be a very good partnership with Salech and he'd probably look a lot better - 20-25 years ago he'd be a perfect second striker.

The one thing that drives me nuts is when he's caught offside so often, it looks like an effort thing (even if maybe sometimes it it's not) and I think that's a very valid criticism of his game. Doesn't help when we can barely get the ball out of our own half, we finally have a chance to break and give our defense a bit of a rest and he's 2 yards offsides because he hasn't got himself back level, and that's happened too often in my opinion.

That mistake against Pompey where somebody gives the ball away close to halfway happens a ton every game, plus it was on the touchline. He was totally let down by his veteran teammates letting them walk it in from there in my opinion. 19 out of 20 times nobody remembers a single bad touch in that position.

Yeah, just one of those things. He didn't look set for the ball really, and it was weird, it seemed to bounce off him, or is my ageing mind playing tricks-Was it a mis placed pass. Agree though, there was plenty of opportunity to mop it up

I agree with that. I think there's also a lot of "what have you done for me lately?". Robinson has gone 3 games without a goal (which is about 13 better than we're used to!) so people are getting twitchy.

I'd like to see them together, Robinson floating around Select. While they're not a traditional big and little partnership, I think it could really suit us.

That would be an interesting combination, especially with Ashford and Alves on either flank

Im not sure wed have the two central midfield players to cover all the work required, but the fact that we have won 3 games in 19in the league Id be tempted to try anything thats going to give us a chance of 3 points on Saturday!!!

We need wins, simple as that, it will be interesting to see how we line up at Plymouth

With games coming thick and fast from Saturday onwards there has to be a bit more flexibility on how we approach them
