What really shows the dearth of bands is how far up The Libertines are on the poster, they played Clwb Ifor Bach last year! Talk about past their prime!

Not my cup of tea but Glastonbury's thing over the past few years has been broad appeal, hence booking the likes of her and Olivia Rodrigo as well as Neil Young to headline, though this crop of headliners (Neil Young aside) do look more suited to Reading than Glastonbury
Fontaines D.C. should have been headlining, but somebody did the math and Olivia Rodrigo won.

Probably, I don't think they're doing anything in June either ahead of their big UK shows?

music . fashion and sub cultures have always evolved but will another one ever happen again ?
I was thinking about this the other day and how music had the ability to drive people towards certain causes, or to get engaged with campaigns, marches etc. Red Wedge, Poll Tax marches, Rock against Racism, CND, Clash, Pistols, Dylan etc etc Lyrics to wake up the sleeping rebel sort of thing.
Nowadays, musically is there anything mainstream to encourage you to get angry about?
I know it sounds a bit foil hat but I often wonder if the government employed Simon Cowell to sanitise mainstream music to stop the masses rising.

    Lyrics of this week's number1:

    "God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl, and you dance at the club"
Oh, mama, I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels
It's where I belong, down at the
    Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing down in West Hollywood
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club
    Pink Pony Club"

Lyrics of the No.1 45 years ago (Yes, 1980!!):

    "Something's happening here today
A show of strength with your boy's brigade
And I'm so happy and you're so kind
You want more money, of course I don't mind
To buy nuclear textbooks for atomic crimes
And the public gets what the public wants
But I want nothing this society's got"

After doing some research there may be a bit more to this song, and the mention of West Hollywood in the lyrics seems to be key to this deeper meaning.

West hollywood is just the posh bit where all the mansions etc are - hollywood itself is a bit of a shithole

Good line up. I was at the Stonehenge free Festival for two weeks that year, so didn't go. So glad I went, as it was the last one

Yeah I saw the green man lineup the other day, I’m not sure I’d even heard of one of them….
Last visit to Glastonbury was 20 years ago, I knew after that 5th visit I wouldn’t be back again. It was a struggle the first few times to catch everyone I wanted to see in different places, I wouldn’t go now if it was free…..

A day to never forget in 2003

West Hollywood is the place where outsiders went to be left alone, hence the song reference. I'm sure that was Hunter S. Thompson's hangout too.

i think you're possibly reading a bit too much into it there - it's about a gay bar in west holywood.

Not really, West Hollywood has a long history and it's an apt metaphor.

I’m pretty sure that 45 years on both Weller and Morrissey’s legacy is safer than Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club will be in 45 years time.

The Who's line 'There'll be fighting in the streets' would read today as 'There will be memes posted on social media'.

Just being playful. Don't take it seriously!
