But could those players do it on a cold Tuesday night in a Cardiff v Luton game?

No, it takes great skill to kick the ball twice and score when taking a penalty!

What an absolute joke disallowing Alvarez's penalty. His lead foot may have made the tiniest contact with the ball as he slipped but didn't move it at all. There's no advantage to the penalty taker so no reason to disallow the penalty, especially when you don't he even get a retake in that situation. I know that technically it's the correct decision but when VAR is spotting things that are basically undetectable to the human eye that's not good for the game.

I thought VAR was meant for obvious things that the ref has missed. Even with VARbyou can't be sure that he touched the ball with his left foot

Real really have turned in the Man United of the 90s where they are a great team no question but they find the most absurd ways to win. I can't imagine how Atletico fans are feeling especially as the little brothers. Could have won in normal time over the two legs, then a bizarre disallowed pen, one that hits the bar that would have bounced down over the line if it was half an inch lower and then one that the keeper should have saved quite easily. Would be absolutely heartbroken.

I think the decision on the Alvarez pen is harsh, but the rule is the rule. Would they have noticed it and reviewed it if Real hadn't made a stink about it, not sure. Are they reviewing every one to see if the keeper steps a millimeter off the line, I doubt they are.
