Thread: How have we done in the past when we've been in this situation?

How have we done in the past when we've been in this situation?

I might be wrong here, but looking back through the archives, it appears that there's only been 2 occasions where we've been in the relegation zone with 3 games to go and survived (1976/77 and 1977/78). If this is wrong, I would appreciate this being corrected. Given that we've suffered 13 relegations in our history, it suggests we've never really been a club with a history of "last day" survivals.

In 1977/78 we were level on points with 2 sides above us having played one game fewer than one of them, and even had 2 games in hand over Bristol Rovers, who were 2 points above us.

Things were a bit tighter in 1976/77, being a point adrift with 3 games to go. We won our next fixture and went into the last game against Carlisle knowing a draw would keep us up, which we got. Carlisle would be relegated.

While we're at it, we've got 3 games to go and probably need 2 wins. We've won our last 3 games of the season on only 2 occasions before (1951/52 and 2019/20). We've won 2 of our last 3 on 9 other occasions but only once to ensure survival.

I seen a stat recently that we were about the 4/5th most Yo Yo (promoted/relegated) club in the football football league.
On that probability alone we are going down.

If my spreadsheet is correct, I make it that Bolton and Notts County have been relegated the most, on 16 occasions. Birmingham next with 15 relegations. Grimsby with 14. Us, Doncaster, Leicester and Burnley with 13, so joint 5th.
